Paratroops

Post by lionel1957 »

This is silly question, but how do you embark(load) and disembark(jump) paratroopers? I cannot find the explanation in the manual?

If it is like PG/PC, you have to have air resources available equivalent to the size of the paratrooper force, then the paratroopers have to be on an airbase hex and you should see an icon in the UI for air transport or airdrop. The ground combat unit's icon should change to a transport plane and you fly it to where you want to drop it. I'm just reasoning this out based on how sea transport works, where the combat unit converts to a ship icon when it leaves a seaport. I have not tried this out yet because the paratroopers are expensive and I need my air resource points for fighters and bombers. But I sure do wish I had a paratrooper unit in New Georgia right now! :)

Both Raiders and Paratroopers work the same. As gunnergoz indicates, you need to have your Paratroopers or Marine Raiders on an airfield hex, though I'm pretty sure there is no air 'resources' requirement. This will light up the command that allows them to board transport planes, and as I recall, you can move the unit first to an airfield and then board transports in the same turn. To disembark them, you just click the parachute symbol and choose either the hex the transport is in, or one of the 6 surrounding hexes as shown on the map. Note that the transport cannot have moved yet; once the transport moves you cannot do a paradrop that turn.

Edit: One more thing to note. When you choose the hex you want the paratroops to drop in, there is a chance that they will actually land in an adjacent hex. They will also land in a different hex if the one you choose had a hidden unit in it.

I cannot find "Marine Raiders" in the text files? Are they listed as "commando"?
