Fighting on anoither continent - 2nd SHQ or other options.

Post by Zinzan08 »

OCEANIA DLC & 1.25.e playing on STEAM

When prosecuting war vs a Major on another continent from your home one, how do you maintain reinforcements/logistics supply from home?

I'd successfully invaded larger continent using MFH shipping, captured a minor and established a 2nd city with developed ports (Lvl 2 & 3) - in preparation to taking on the leading major (who occupied most of this continent)/

Managed to setup a basic logistics network and shipped forces from "home" in so invaded. Everything went swimmingly for several turns until my logistics expansion slowed to a crawl and reinforcements failed to come through.

I Figured out that as they were coming from SHQ on original continent they were choking on limited seaborne logistics. I''d maxed out MFH transport to both harbours, got 6 other ports on homeland and another 2 new ones by this point but just a trickle of reinforcements and supply were getting through.

WHATto do?

It strikes me that therre are 2 basic options.
1. Form 2ns SHQ on nerw continent and direct all local resources to this one - plenty of metal, energy etc avaialable - but would mean having to rebuild conscripts anew etc .....
2. I'm missing some way of increasing logistics flow by sea between continents?????????

Any and all comments welcome

I haven't played this far yet, but its coming.

This Nemesis scenario comes about when a single AI comes to dominate all or most of an area, in the absence of the player. Then it should snowball, the AI, kind of like a proper hegemon, in an alien Ithaca maybe, unopposed and without attrition, AI bonuses stacking turn on turn, and no player in sight to curb this dangerous hyper-growth.

That is how we get a really beefy end-game situation, and I'm quite curious to see how a full scale, late game, inter-continental invasion will work, when and if it comes in my game. For now though, I don't have any experience with the SE scenario you describe.

But you asked nicely so let me try some questions anyways. Wouldn't simply having bigger ports help? Alternatively, if you can set up enough local production, the zone on the new continent should supply the troops who are in it directly, if that zone management setting is on (I think). Then there's the SHQ Logistics Limits dashboard, under your SHQ unit admin, which is there for problems like this, though I rarely use it. Perhaps try using that bank of tick boxes to stop the overseas zone from sending things all the way across the pond just to have them turned around and shipped back to be used?

But the bottom line is this is what an SHQ is for: mainly distribution. And with a second continent in play, I wouldn't be surprised if a second SHQ were the best way to handle things, apropos. I might even want to do it just for RP reasons.

Yes, in that case you would have to ship your original Militia (nb. not conscripts) back or they would wither and die. But that also is appropriate.

Lastly, I can't tell from reading your post exactly why there is "only a trickle getting through"... True: once a force is engaged, the materiel load can build up quickly, and then <boom> your logistics are overloaded. But you should still have full through-put; and its just that your needs are much higher now. Or did the MTH transport contracts simply expire?

Good luck!

Thanks for the reply,

I'll try and get some time tonight to post some pics of the situation. I've increased post capacity both on 2nd continent and "home", Had 2 MTH transport contracts running (from 2 different ports to 2 diff locations).

I'm also planning on going back a few turns and setup a SHQ and modify the local resources to see if it makes a significant difference.

Due to work commitments this may take most of the rest of the week.

This is a nice blurb about setting up a 2nd SHQ, detailing all the issues you may need to deal with

Well as I seem to be unable to post pics yet (Assume because too few posts etc) I'll be saving stuff for a larger post over weekends :)
