Hilfefunktion Editor – Help function editor - tags-Texts – Deutsches Handbuch -German manual

Post by OnlineGeneral »

Hallo Hubert!
Online General

Translation in English:
Hello Hubert:

The help function in the editor does not work. There is also always the message: "Strategic" not found? A German-language help function is missing.

Where are the "tags" - texts for the event texts to add or change? (Files / names?)

German manual?
(With the extensive game concept, a German manual to look up certain points is very important, when does that come?)

Hi OnlineGeneral,

Thanks for the report and the Help shortcut/function has now been fixed for the next update.

Unfortunately there is no German manual or current plan to add one, but I should be able to help you here.

For events, let's say you navigate to the subfolder of your desired campaign and open the Events\Decision.txt file.

The very first event has a line that says #MESSAGE= <<TAG_1>>

The <<TAG>> texts can be then found within the language subfolders also found within the Events folder, e.g. EN, DE, ES, FR for English, German, Spanish and French.

If you open the DE folder, and then the decision.txt file found there, you should see the line that has <<TAG_1>>= and if you amend the text it will then show the changed text in game after you resave the campaign.

Hope this helps,
Hubert

Hello Hubert, thanks for helping with the "TAG" questions.
The "TAG" numbers 1 and 2 in the resource folder
are the same as in the Decision folder, is that correct?
-----------------------------------
The matter of translating the manual into German is still very important for the player! Many processes and understanding of the game mechanics are explained here. Please Hubert, do your best to ensure that there is an exact translation. I think the loyal German fans of the series deserve that.

Each script has a corresponding file that has the <<TAG>> text, e.g. the following script file:

C: \ Users \ hjkra \ OneDrive \ Documents \ My Games \ Strategic Command WWI \ Campaigns \ _1914 Dreipakt-Bcgn \ Scripts \ Events \ decision.txt

Would then have a corresponding file found here with all the <<TAG>> text:

C: \ Users \ hjkra \ OneDrive \ Documents \ My Games \ Strategic Command WWI \ Campaigns \ _1914 Dreipakt-Bcgn \ Scripts \ Events \ DE \ decision.txt

Hello Hubert,
unfortunately it doesn't work that way either.
I even saved a new editor campaign and only introduced and named one unit.
Then in the folder:
C: \ Users \ hjkra \ OneDrive \ Documents \ My Games \ Strategic Command WWI \ Campaigns \ _1914 - Off to Arms \ Text \ DE
the file unit.txt is opened and the error message:
# 1082 = General Ludendorf
added.
It doesn't help, it doesn't work, the error message keeps coming back.
On the other hand, if you rename or reorganize and name units, surely the program has to introduce it correctly by itself?
Otherwise you are constantly working on making manual improvements? Tremendous list work.
I see this as an editor's mistake.

Hi OnlineGeneral,

It should manage the edits automatically, at least it does for us, but there is the possibility you might be doing it in a way we didn't anticipate and thus some issues on your end.

I believe how this works internally is that despite setting the Editor or Game to run in German, e.g. with the German interface language, all the edits happen on the English side of things.

For example, if you edit unit names, all the edits will be handled and updated in the 'EN' folder files.

After you are done, you'll then need to make the appropriate manual additions to the other language files as needed, e.g. add any added names to the German 'DE' applicable files.

A good way to do this is file compare let's say 'EN' unit.txt file with the 'DE' unit.txt file and you should be able to see what names are missing and then manually add them accordingly if you want to play in German and so on.

Notepad++ has a good file compare utility that enables you to do this which can be downloaded here:

https://notepad-plus-plus.org/

Below is an example of a file compare of the 'EN' unit.txt file versus the 'DE' unit.txt file on the right hand side. All I did here was open the 1918 Ludendorff campaign, saved it as a custom campaign and then amended the British HQ name Horne to 'Horne New' and added a new German HQ named 'Hubert'

You can see that the English file automatically updated, and I just need to add those two lines to the German file, e.g. line #1349 and #1350:

Just make sure you are always editing the files in your custom campaign path and it should do the job.

Hope this helps,
Hubert

Hello Hubert,

then you have copied the lines from the EN folder and its Unit.txt file into the DE folder and file from its unit.txt file.

OK, but that doesn't work either.

Because, according to their logic, the changes in the editor would have to be automatically transferred to the EN version file unit.txt.
This has already been done in practice by manually entering this file, but it does not work.
Errors are still displayed as described.

The game mechanics should be reworked.
Otherwise you can't rename the names in the game without getting huge error messages when reloading.
And this would also lead to an impossible overhead for the player to rework manually, even if that worked.

Hi OnlineGeneral,

Unfortunately without seeing exactly what you are doing on your end it is difficult for me to fully understand where things might be going wrong.

Please try the following:

1) Open the Editor and then open the default '1918 Ludendorff Offensive' campaign that comes with the WWI package.

2) Click 'Save As' and then save the campaign as 1918 Ludendorff Offensive TEST. This should now be saved in your USER campaigns folder, e.g.:

C: \ Users \ hjkra \ OneDrive \ Documents \ My Games \ Strategic Command WWI \ Campaigns

3) Select the unit layer, and rename the HQ at hex (24,22) from Byrde to 'OnlineGeneral'

4) Go to Campaigns->Edit Country Data->Unit Build Data and then add an HQ to the UK list and call him 'Hubert'

5) Save the campaign

6) Navigate to the following folder and open the unit.txt file:

C: \ Users \ hjkra \ OneDrive \ Documents \ My Games \ Strategic Command WWI \ Campaigns \ _1918 Ludendorff TEST \ Text \ EN

7) Copy the last two entries added to the unit.txt file, e.g.:

#1349= Hubert
#1350= OnlineGeneral

8) Open the DE unit.txt file found here:

C: \ Users \ hjkra \ OneDrive \ Documents \ My Games \ Strategic Command WWI \ Campaigns \ _1918 Ludendorff TEST \ Text \ DE

9) Paste the two unit names at the end of the file, save the file.

10) Launch the game in German and it should launch as expected.

Hope this helps,
Hubert

Translation in English:

Hello Hubert,

this story works, but first you have to copy the English file from Unit.txt in the area (not from the German file to the German file, as you mistakenly did) and make sure that you press Return at the bottom, otherwise it will work again not. For example, if you read the line:
# 1304 Hubert , then you have to press return or enter
only then save to get to the next line.
However, this problem should not arise in the first place. Can you change the error in the editor program?

Translation in English:

Addition to the previous answer:
My penultimate post that it does not work, was based on the last "Enter" point mentioned.
I copied the list in question from the EN units file (Unit.txt) into the DE units file (Unit.txt), then saved and done.
THAT didn't work, what I told you.

After my own research I suspected that if you are at the last point, on the line of the last, relevant name and then press ENTER or RETURN to come down another line, it would work. Then save and you're done.

That's how it worked.

Thanks for the feedback and I see the issue. This is a bit of a known issue as I remember it happening even before for me and just always added the extra line. I'll see what I can do but glad to know you at least have it working now on your end.
