Jul 17, 1942: British forces cautiously expanded space in west France, and sent in a couple paras... Axis still did not respond. It's high time right now for the offensive in Russia, they couldn't afford to pull anything away. Paris was well defended by an army though.

In NA and Middle East, Axis forces reached Alexandra and Basra, while the British took Tunis and continued west toward Algiers.

Meanwhile in Japan, 1 Aussie Corps stubbornly refused to surrender in Nagasaki. With the Jap bombers kept the ports out of action, every unit that landed there on Jap home soil was either destroyed or disbanded. Every unit but one who escaped early. Yes I would rather disband them than let them suffer the pointless struggle, and the NM consequences. The US Stilwell HQ had to be disbanded there. I didn't send him to China. Kind of pointless at the time with the situation in China hopeless.
After I landed in Nagasaki and Hiroshima in March, I should've kept it just as a raid instead of turning it into an invasion. The Jap home land defense was way stronger than I thought. This invasion had cost more than half of my ground forces in the Pacific.

Aug 14, 1942: Now the western Allies put some serious assets onshore into western France, set the stage for the real big thing. These guys, however, were not aimed at Paris. The real target was Bordeaux then Spain. Notice the US tank with 2 strength? Well she ran into a U-boat in the Atlantic, and barely survived!
This, turned out, was the beginning of the end. Though at the time I had no idea. I was merely trying the next thing I could try. I had no confidence whether the attack on Spain would be successful, or if I could hold on to Spain afterwards.

Meanwhile, around southern Russia, where most of the brutal fighting had been, the Russians were gradually being pushed back. 1 Russian oil field already fell.

In NA, Axis marched triumphantly into Alexandra and Cairo, which would hit the British morale hard. UK would be starting next turn with less than 50% NM!
Well, at least they took Algiers and marched on toward Oran.
Notice the strength 1 HQ? That's Monty himself. As long as he still had a 5 supply, the Axis wouldn't kill him yet. The CVs could do the job anytime they wished. Later Monty was to run out of options and had to be disbanded!

Sep 11, 1942: The British NA group ran into significant Spanish defenders at Oran. Now with the few supporting Allied Navy all removed by IJN, there was no hope to capture Oran or reach the Atlantic coast...
But, this might be good news indeed. This meant, that Axis were not aware of the on-coming assault on Spain, and the Spanish homeland defense could be weaker than expected!

With its supply running low, the Jap Para who's been holding Delhi all this time "flew away". Guess it's been on "ready".
With Delhi finally recovered, the Indians began the process to push the Japs back.
But in China, Lanchow fell, while Wanting had been stubbornly held. It had been under siege from both directions since March when Kunming was lost. The mountains around made the Japs unable to move in. 1 Corps was even sent away to recover part of Burma. Somehow the Japs never came from that direction.

Oct 9, 1942: The Western Allies made their move. They attacked and took Bordeaux, set up a defensive perimeter, and had the Paras to cut off the Iberian Peninsular from the rest of Europe.

Meanwhile, in the W Pacific, some fighting broke out on San Jose and Guam. With the US Navy dominating the sea, there was no hope for the Japs there.

Nov. 6, 1942: Western Allies sent more assets into W France, and pushed into Spain. 2 Amphibious troops landed near Lisbon, ready to liberate Portugal.
Realizing the seriousness of the matter, a large number of Axis units were sent to the area. Unable to get into Spain easily, they couldn't do much to save her.

Forgot to mention in the previous turn, Allies DOWed Nepal, and quickly captured it in 1 turn. Poor innocent Nepal. Well, we need the road that goes into China.

Dec. 4, 1942: Allies liberated Portugal, and reached the outskirt of Madrid. Forces in most of W France began to retreat, either to be transported to Spain/Portugal, or moved to defend Bordeaux, for now. With the arrival of multiple German armor, there was not much hope to hold long there.
The Spanish forces around Oran stood firm and didn't attempt to go back.

In Russia, winter was here, and the Russians could get a bit breathing room. For much of 42, the Russians stood firm without giving much ground, except 2 oil fields were lost to the Axis pushing from the Turkish side.

JAP took Wanting finally, just in time to allow the escape of those who were trapped in the area west of it.

1943 came.
Allies pretty much all left W France, took Madrid and Gibraltar. Would the Americans be able to hold on to Spain, against the onslaught of all the Panzers and Tiger? I was pretty pessimistic at the time with that outlook.
Allied Navy rushed into the Mediterranean. You see all those ships sent attached to the IJN CVs? Was hoping they could prevent those CVs from retreating too far. Turned out this was another blunder of mine. All those ships were to be sunk in 1 turn, and those Jap CVs would park themselves into the various ports around with plenty of land based air coverage. I had to wait for the arrival of a lot more Allied ships to be able to launch attacks on them much later.

A look at the unit count ATM.
The Axis looked still much stronger than the Allies on land. Russian unit count had be dropping steadily (she couldn't replace her losses every turn), while Germany had been growing. Russia might just crack soon, if GER were able to concentrate her forces against her.

Jan 29, 1943: Graf Zeppelin decided to come out to fight, hoping to catch some Allied transports I suppose. She was spotted by an american troop transport actually, when she cruised right by her. I could see a blip and hear the sound of her during replay. With the million Allied ships in the area, she was quickly located and surrounded, and would be sunk without too much trouble.
