Recommendations for better/visible rail mods?

Post by Shadrach »

I'm really struggling with being able to distinguish the rail lines from the background, and especially the destroyed ones. Considering how important rail is in a lot of scenarios, it's starting to be an issue.

So looking for recommendations for any mods that would help with visibility.
Basically something that makes them stand out better without being too in-your-face.

At the moment I'm using a slightly modified version of Silvain's mod, made it slightly dimmer (blurred), with red-black for the destroyed tracks, combined with an overlay from Telu's Damaged Bridge set. It works OK, but not perfect, so wondering what other alternatives I have.

I know probably this is very much related to how much the rails blend into them the map tiles themselves, but i kind of like the default map tiles, for now at least.

You want this mod:

You might also want this related on for bridges:

Did you ever see history portrayed as an old man ... weighing all things in the balance of reason?

Thanks for that Dan - actually I had seen those before, but unfortunately they stand out a bit too much.

I guess what I'm looking for is a 'subtler' version of Silvain's mod, something to easily distinguish rail from other terrain features.

OK - so after looking around the forums and searching I figured I might as well do some changes to what exists.

This is the one I'd been using, based off Sylvain's mod. I like them a lot, but they're not exactly subtle... As well as missing the high-quality ones, and scaling makes them look either very pixelated or blurry.

So I had a look at Telumar's mod, and the default rail has good enough visibility, but the damaged rail is hard to distinguish. I changed them to be red, and got the following:

Also this is using an overlay of the Damaged Bridge set so destroyed bridges are more visible, but at the same time not clearing the hex of all other road/rail lines.

Quite happy with the result.
