Rout question

Just getting a feel for the game exploring all its features. Last night I had the following situation: unit
needed to be routed from an open hex next to an enemy unit - routed it into an adjacent stone building and wanted
to go further into a woods behind the building which would have been out of any enemy LOS. The manual states that a
unit may rout up to six hexes implying a movement factor of six. According to a chart downloaded from Matrix
stone buildings and woods both cost two movement points to enter. But the game ended my rout of this unit. It would
not let me go further. Is this correct?

Seems wrong but this has happened me many times. Yet the AI can move the full 6 points (and I am not clicking the Low Crawl button).

Did the routing unit have a leader with it? I am wondering if, like with regular movement, it requires a leader to be able to move up to 6 hexes.

Without a leader broken units may stay in the first cover they reach. That is what I think is happening.

It is best if the player has a choice because usually you want them back out of LOS. Otherwise they will soon be B+ again.

I think that what happening is this is a situation where the unit can only low crawl one hex away and the program automatically make it low crawl. Otherwise, a full out rout would cause the unit to be eliminated. I think that the program is replicating the "surrender" rules of ASL in some fashion. The ASL rout rules are very complicated to explain here.

No leader - I too have watched the AI move multiple hexes - getting out LOS I would guess is a basic strategy

This actually happened twice - had two units in exactly the same situations and it happened to both

Both were Russian if it makes any difference

I know Peter is working on some of the routing mechanic, not sure exactly what he is changing but here is the rout overview.

1) not closer to a known enemy unit

2) rout to nearest building or woods hex

3) entering the nearest building or woods hex ends rout unless you can enter an adjacent building or woods hex (must be directly adjacent (no open gound)) and not closer to a known enemy unit

This is the basics for routing.

If this second different stone building (or woods) is not "directly adjacent" they can not rout to it. They will have to stop at the woods or building they routed to. The next rout phase they could then rout out of that building into the open hex and to the second building.

Once they arrive at the nearest building/woods they can not leave unless there is an adjacent building/woods hex.

main reasons I bought the game. Live just North of Columbus in Marysville. Work in Columbus at Ohio Dominican
University on the East side.

I know exactly where Marysville is.. My best friend lives there. But I don't live there anymore, I moved to Florida....

I did live in Blacklick if you knew where that is...

You should check out CABS than.. Columbus Area Boardgaming Society... Huge boardgaming club that meets every week in Worthington. You shoud hook up with them.

First visit is free.. lots of good people there with tons of games to play, even some good old wargamers. Not to many left but you can find some good players to help teach and play games with.
