Docking

Post by DKF12 »

I noticed that convoys don’t always dock and start unloading. Does it make much difference on unloading if docked or undocked?

Yes, it makes a difference. You need to watch the size of your port and the size of the TF. If the port is too small, a large TF will not dock. Also, naval support is important....GP

Coming into a port is a process that uses operations points for movement and abstracted harbour pilot/maneuvering to assigned spot, etc. Near as I can tell the TF must have a full 1000 ops points to move the final hex into the port. You will note that over half your TFs end the turn at the hex just outside the port hex.
Once in the port, I am not clear if docking takes additional ops points. I think it does because sometimes the TF will dock automatically and sometimes it will not, but you can just click on dock TF and it is done. You will also note that the first turn of unloading often is not to the full unload capacity of the port and naval support. That means some of the ops points were used up getting to the dock.

There have been several threads on auto-docking over the years.

I’ve always found auto-docking to be confusing and I’ve not done
any tests on it. I just watch my ports carefully and adjust
as I think necessary.

Reading of the the whole threads are helpful.
