Then how do you know if that tank you see is your friend or your enemy? Sticking to axis versus allies means that you can tell by the type of afv you are seeing...

Identifier labels over the units you can see. Green for friend, red for enemy.

Image

It seems that makes spotting targets a little too easy, or am I missing something here?

You or one of your teammates has to have eyes on the target in order for it to be identified. Otherwise, its invisible. Edit: Interestingly enough, this also works for your ream members. If you or another teammate doesnt have LOS on a third teammate, they wont show up either.

Theres also a lovely little glitch that makes targets disappear for no good reason. Love being killed by invisible tanks with Romulan cloaking technology.

Probably because they have a more stable platform or some such. Or because they need an advantage over the tanks in this regard. The TDs often have a slightly better rate of fire as well.

Eh, I can live with that. Its also not very realistic, tech wise. Like putting a 57mm gun into an AT-1 chassis (which was a Komsomolets tractor mounting a short barrel 75 iirc) would have blown the back hatch out with the recoil.
Well, the KV-1 is probably a good one to learn in. At tier 5 it's a bit of a monster, especially when you're facing tier 4 tanks.

I have several tracks going at the moment. I pretty much gave up on the medium tank tree and was pursuing the heavy tank one, but I think I will switch to TD because it more closely matches my playing style. Still darn awkward in cities, though.

Maybe you will maybe you wont, but I find out a go from style to style...I get bored one evening with being a scout, so I go arty.. yada yada... I have a medium tank I like most, and play the most (M4). I have a light tank I like best (M5). I have two-three arty units depending on what tier I'm interested in that day. My favorite TD is tier II T18 (almost impossible to destroy from head on in low tier games) and Hetzer. Hetzer is very powerful in tiers within it's tier, but anything above, it struggles. MS-1 is a very fun tank to play. Lower tier games just seem to be more enjoyable.

Dixie-

I am on the same page with you on your analysis of my coment about low tier vs high tier...you went more in depth and said it better, but we're basically on the same page.

Excellent segway. Where are the weakspots? I have shot T-18s at point blank range in the side with a 45mm and gotten bounced. Matildas...dont even get me started. I've seen people sit there and take 20 shots from 3 level 3 opponents on the frontal like it aint no thang.

Matildas have the highest armor for their tier/size of tank of all tanks in the game.

That explains it. What's the T-18s excuse? [:D]

Go look at its armor vs all other tier II tanks, and youll see why. Then, look at the two best guns available.. especially the howitzer..

It is all about the radio upgrade and view range.

I can scout in the top corner of the map, with the lowest signal range radio, and no one on my team will see the units I spot, even though I can see them.

To be honest, I'm in no hurry to get to the higher tiers. A friend an I were playing as a platoon yesterday and for some reason we )at levels 2 and 3) kept getting put into games with levels 5-8. I completely agree that the gameplay is completely different. 3 and 4 seems to be where its at. Now I just need to train up mu crew. [:D]

I find WoT to be a very good change of pace to WiTPAE. Good to play in between turns when I have a free evening. Very fun, addicting game.

Who all plays?

I have noticed the ones who are talking about it.

Lower tier tanks are put in high tier games as scouts. Not fun sometimes.

I just looked last night, I have survived 6 of 60 games in my M5..however, I have scored a lot of exp and money with it. You get points/exp for scouting units, units you've scouted that are destroyed by team members, and of course, damage you cause. The M5 has a howitzer that is surprisingly powerful for a light tank, and you can surprise enemies that think you're a punny scout. One ram and shot to mostly any arty unit from tier five or lower usually results in a kill and living to tell about it.

I tend to play fast paced, don't like to sit alot, and play fast tanks...so I die more often then I kill. I think in 750 games, I have 500 kills.. appx

69F, 20C, some overcast clouds due to the frontal passage. Should be same for the next few days, but with some warming from the Gulf air mass.

Put some new bases into NZ for the Babes Guad scenario. Not that they mean anything tactically, just because I like NZ and wanted to see it righteous. Will vet them with DivePac88 so I don't do something stoopid. On North Island, we got Gisborne, Napier, Wanganui, New Plymouth, and Tauranga. Not so much on South Island, because it's truncated on the game map.

Figure these in with the new bases in the Solomons and on Papua, and you get some nice stuff that's useful in a strategic/tactical sense in the scenario. Much of the NZ units are restricted, but some did good work, and you will find them available when they became so. No 3 Sqdn RNZAF performed yeoman service for the Cactus Airforce from 11/42 on.

20 shots is nothing. I have games where it's taken 40 to finish me off and I've taken down four tanks whilst being shot at. The best way to kill a Matilda is bring a lot of friends. I think I've got a screenie where I took 30 hits and survived. Steel Wall, cool headed and spartan awards for that one.

For Leo, I've got some replays but they're in the world oftanks format. You'd need the game installed to watch them, I'm not techy enough to know how to convert them into a different format.

I might try Matilda tonight. Only reason I haven't is the speed..

Leo,

I just ran across this one. Gives you a pretty good idea of the gameplay.

Yeah, a T-46 (besides being pretty much imaginary as only a handfull were ever made) makes a great scout tank. [8|][:D]

Just my ten cents worth here John;

#Gisborne, would make a medium size port only and has trouble with tides.
#Napier, would make a large port, but is not trusted in NZ as it has a history of bad earthquakes.
#Wanganui, small fishing port only, as it has a lee shore and a dangerous bar.
#New Plymouth, excellent medium side port, deep harbor and could take large ships.
#Tauranga, excellent large port, deep and very good harbor.

Edit; I've always thought that Nelson in the South Island is in the wrong hex, and should be moved to 111-90. It has an excellent harbor, and could take large ships with some dredging.
