Matrix let down

Post by styer27 »

I scoped this game out for weeks before i finally found a decent download that found a way past matrix games over-the-top security codes, im an honest person but im an avid believer in the try before you waste $100 policy.

Anyway, as we all know the game has a depth that almost takes alien technology to understand so i whammed through the first couple of weeks as japanese mostly watching the action unfold as i slowly fall in love with the game. But this love reminds me of an ex girlfriend i had that had a really fat friend, and as much as a tried not to i was forced to spend time around an annoying, smelly fat woman .... so i left her. In english, of course i want to sink the enterprise, and prevent a midway disaster, etc, etc, but do i honestly have to slug through a billion hours of transport and administration duties, supply, rearment etc etc. Im estimating the battle of midway to happen somewhere in the next year of my life as my average of 1 turn per 2 real days is going to be a while off.

So i check and i have no delegation option for anything except the basic transport duties, and submarines. Why not the option to delegate the army like in the old version? you give me 100% control over my sea trade but 0% control on my land transport for oil and resources.

So ok, i got over that, i guessed that if its this complicated in the core, and all this core is for one purpose, combat, every little action before the battle all those hours spent so the result has to be the most accurate ever in the history of games .... what a joke.

i drew the line when my large force of 4 BB and 6 DD are ALL DESTROYED in one turn when i noobishly sailed into a port with "mines" So in reality the whole fleet watched one ship get hit, then another, then another, yet they sail like suicidal lemmings into the minefield and i had no way to alter orders mid-turn. How realistic! Why spend months even years creating such a complex game yet fall short in the most critical aspect of any wargame ... COMBAT! I mean of course realistically the admiral of my fleet would have changed course (much like the transports do under surface threat) as soon as the first ship got hit, so 1, maybe 2, 3 at most ships should sink, not all, thats just 100% stupidity.

So what now, all i want is a midway carrier battle, thats why im busting all these hours training men and supplying bases, fair enough the 4 BB's are next to useless anyway with the air combat to come, but the mechanics of it have ut me off the game completely, i feel like performing CPR or something caus its so sad, but what can i do, Gary has let me down like this in almost all of his games, too much complexity ruins the flow.

Anyway now im forced to return to PTO II, where at least i can feel like im in command of a war fleet and not a administrators office, but the game has pathetic AI hence the reason i looked here. Anyone have any suggestions for a pacific war game? ive tried most of them but nothing compares to PTO II or the original carrier wars (if only it had a campaign mode!) Ive reached the giving up point, they just cant make good strategy games anymore in this hyperactive world we live in.

This game needs a demo, something to try so you arent forced to buy the game after hearing one of those spectacular reviews that always seem to conveniently leave out screenshots and comments about the actual combat in game, i was about to buy the game, what a stupid waste of money that would have been, a simple demo would have avoided me wasting 2 weeks of my life, one hour of yours, and would have prevented this whole post. It angers me to think of all the people like me who bought the game only to shelve it for the same reasons, and of course there are many. At least lay off on the security codes a little, its not like your protecting gold bullion, though it seems you are when you have to enter a serial code just to activate a Matrix games PATCH! do you lock up your toothbrush in a bathroom safe too? someone might steal that

I always wondered why you had to re-enter the license key when installing a patch, now I know.
Anyway, since you didn't pay for the game, why post here?
There are many good posts of critics on this forum, and the game is definately not perfect (what game is?), but your post is unwarranted.

Good luck finding a game you like and pay for.

styer27,

You are falling short in both honesty and understanding. First, finding a way around the codes is stealing the game. And Matrix security is not over-the-top. It is the most player (make that "PURCHASER") friendly copy protection I have ever seen.

Second, you found the forums here to complain after obtaining an illicit copy. You could also have found the forums to ask about the game and figure out if it is for you. Instead you got a copy through wrongful means and proceeded to sink a lot of time into it.

Now you complain! About what? All the money you wasted? No - you whine about not being able to download patches for the game you did not buy. Why should anybody help you or take your complaint to heart?

And I doubt that there are ANY purchasers at all who have shelved the game because they could not download patches. I have seen posts where people asked for help with that process, which is pretty easy to begin with. Always they got help. From other players. And any with technical issues regarding their PURCHASE got help from Matrix.

This game is exceptional, and it has received, and is receiving exceptional support. It is not for everybody.

You say "It angers me to think of all the people like me who bought the game only to shelve it for the same reasons, and of course there are many."

You didn't buy the game, so people who bought the game are not like you. Some people might have decided the game is not for them or tired of it after a while, but that is true of all games. This game has an extraordinarily active community, so I believe your pronouncement is just made up babble to justify your own anger. Can't get a patch for something you didn't pay for! How horrible!

I think I heard everything now. Someone steals a game than registers only to complain about his/her heist?

doing a criminal download, having no clue about the game, looking for a Pacific Storm or C&C style game and then complaining on the forum about the game being responsible for you having wasted two weeks of your life. Lol, crazyness has entered a new dimension...

Troll? whatever, a forum troll is someone who picks away at someone personally, for example, how this forum has now turned into a duscussion about me and my actions, lets all divert back to the subject .... War in the pacific

Firstly, i borrowed the game off a friend, so the fingerpointers can settle down a little and go back to harassing neighbors or something eh.

Id like to hear peoples opinion on the mines mostly, and the delegation thing, plus the fact there should be a demo. These are all civil conversations and im allowed to have a negative OR positive opinion caus i was born with that right.

Can all people wanting to make comments about me personally go get a life and stay out of this thread plz.

So did you borrow it or break through the security?  There's no point in complaining about finger pointing and saying that firstly you borrowed it from a friend when you've already said you've found a way around the security...

So you got a game this complex, run a BB TF into a heavy minefield (where would be interesting),
and complain that this has nothing to do with actual combat?
And I didn´t really get the delegation thing.

Hey calm down, retry and don´t do things like that. [;)]

A demo is an interesting idea though, has anybody thought about something like that, like coral sea only?
That could let people try the basics.

The delegation thing is having the computer handle the land units on malaysia and having them capture singapore kind of thing. Without player input.

its like the "theatre"function in Hearts of Iron III. You only have to give them a target and off the selected units go.
It only works so-so in HOI-3 and that game doesnt have the depth of AE. not by a long shot.

LoBaron,

You may recall that originally, it had been intended to make WITP:AE dependent on already having classical WITP installed. The reason being that due to the complexity of AE, it was felt that only those who were already aware of the complexity of classical WITP would appreciate and enjoy AE.

I don't think a demo (even if one of the shorter scenarios) would quite suffice for complete newcomers to the game engine, most likely turning them off from buying the game due to the length and level of detail it would need to have in order to truly convey accurately what AE is all about.

Why not the option to delegate the army like in the old version?

From that statement it sounds like you have a previous familiarity with the mechanics of WitP, so why are you surprised at all by the complexities of the Admiral's Edition?
