Sub Raider Placement Question

Does sub placement within a trade route make any difference as to it's effectiveness against Merchants ?

No, I don't think so. Your sub placement is more in function of the sub hunter groups and the planes around.

I am not 100% sure of this, but I believe that if your subs are close to an enemy controlled coastal hex then there is a greater chance that they will be detected and attacked by escorts. If this is not the case, it should be. If true, than you are generally better off keeping them 8+ hexes away from enemy controlled hexes.
