Starting new game

Post by Gratch1111 »

So bought the game a couple of years ago but never got beyond reading of the rules and setting up and such. Now Im starting again and I know I wondered about this the last time as well.

When you start the game you select optional rules and you click the one you want to use. Now I wont use all of these, at least the first few times, but some rules cant be chosen, but I can see that they can be chosen both in the video tutorial as well as in the manual. I know some are dependant on others but even if they are chosen they do not become an option.

Examples:
Cant choose Frogmen
Cant choose Partisan HQ despite have Partisans
And in the manual it says I can only have one of 2D10 Land CRT and Blitz Bonus, but in the startup I can choose both

So what is the problem? And why?

1. Not all optional rules have already been implemented. Frogmen, unfortunately, is not yet implemented.
2. Partisan HQ is not yet implemented, but is at least earmarked to be coded soon. Normal partisan optional rule is enabled and working.
3. Using 2D10 CRT you do not use Blitz Combat optional rule, as Blitz Combat is already built in that optional CRT.

Personally, I am missing Frogmen optional as well, but honestly, I do not consider it game breaking.

MWIF works well. The developer has stated, new bug reports are mostly of obscure nature and I tend to agree. I suggest to check his monthly reports in order to get an idea of the current status of the program.

MWIF is a great game, deeply satisfying and with the best value:cost ratio I have ever experienced. I spent hundreds of hours already and I cannot imagine going back to the boardgame version nor to the Vassal version.

I play with others, actually one other gamer so far. I also play solitaire to learn the game better and to learn to use the program in most efficient way.
We start a scenario as a solitaire game and send screenshots by whatsapp, if we need a quick decision from the other side. If needed, we send the full game file, so the other guy can inspect the file in full detail, if desired.
I don't think, this game is well suited for netplay, at least the Global War scenario takes far too long for the phasing player to move all pieces, while the non-phasing player has nothing to do. Basically playing by pbem using solitaire mode as described above works fine.

There are a few optional rules that you do not want to use, most notably Construction Engineers, which is simply an exercise in frustration for all sides.

Surprised ZOCs is very, very onesided in favor of the Germans; most players do not use this rule.
I thought I knew how to play this game....

Exactly, we do not use these two optional rules mentioned by you. Why do you think so?

Actually I disagree with suitability for Netplay, it is my preferred mode of play, bugs and all. It is much more like playing the boardgame with decisions required in real time, but yes it can be slow while the other player has their impulse.

We all have different preferrences.

It's fun using Netplay, especially with your opponent on Skype cursing when I shoot down another Italian FTR with my Gladiator CVP's. Those reactions are just the same as on the board. I like it...

And when you gloat about that, it is also nice to know your opponent is 8000 kms away.
