Wow, just got my first 20 turn win on hard.

Hannibal: Rome and Carthage in the Second Punic War is a new and innovative turn-based strategy game that puts you in command of the Carthaginian military during a period of total war over land and sea with the young Roman Republic. With this military juggernaut of the ancient world at your disposal, you will vie for control over Italy, Carthage, Spain and the Mediterranean Sea using a combination of strategic political maneuvering and sheer tactical skill both on land and sea. Play consists of two layers; the first is a strategic layer where you must prudently steer your forces to the destruction of Rome’s army and the ultimate destruction of the Republic and city itself. At your disposal are a variety of unit types and historical commanders from which to form your armies. On the tactical scale, when meeting the enemy in battle, skilled leadership and a knack for war come into play as you use a simple but engaging battle system to best your opponents.

Man, what a meat grinder! Spain turned into a Roman Vietnam with constant reinforcements on both sides and no game changing decisive battles. Hasdrubal showed his mettle beating Africanus (albeit with 4 unit advantage). The turning point came when I overthrew Sicily on turn 18- the AI could've stormed it on the last turn but did not (I would've as there was nothing to lose at that point- this why this game should be ONE MILLION TURNS LONG [:D])

I'm still coming to grips with the victory point calculations, but I controlled Spain, Syracuse and Pisa at the end.

And to think that I was ready to quit on turn 10(!) when Hannibal in Umbria was down to 3 cavalry units. Really tense throughout. Kudos to Forced March & Matrix on a great game.

I did notice that I enjoy those games more where Hannibal is down to a handful of unis and you have to fight for survival first and victory later. Good job on pulling though this one.

Congratulations! I get beaten by the hard AI quite often, but that only makes my own victories that much sweeter.

I hope we'll soon hear some more news about the next game in the series. It will be interesting to see just how much more they can improve the already deadly AI. [:)]

Just finished a 20 turn win too. The Romans tried to break the seige of Rome, but lost 2 battles against my 42 sized army (which included 5 elephant units). I also had an 8 sized army in Spain...controlled Spain, Sicily, and North Africa...and for the first time ever (in something like 50 games or more), I ended the game with Naval superiority... 5 - 1.

I LOVE this game.

My record is pretty good on Hard. I win about 75% of the time.
