BETA TESTING

Frank Hunter's Campaigns on the Danube is an operational study of the campaigns along the Danube in 1805 and 1809. Campaigns on the Danube's system focuses on trying to present the player with the same sort of decisions placed on their historical counterparts; how to feed an army and move that army according to a plan, all the while trying to fight a campaign. There is also an option to allow players to play out the battles with miniatures and input the results.

BETA TESTING

Post by Agathosdaimon »

Hi

well the beta 3.0 version looks good with its resolutions and i can now happily play in 1366x768 res

however i am having 2 issues, one is that i have started the Ulm campaign and it seems broken - -once i hit end turn the game just stays in the activity phase and never progresses to my next turn. Is there something i am suppose to do? as of now it has been sitting in the activity phase for 10 plus minutes so i am not sure it is going to complete.

also it is not posible to know whether there multiple units in a hex or not, as the stacks are perfectly square - one needs at least some kind of obliqueness to suggest that there are some other units/other corps under the main one showing.

what i seem to get is that when i play with full FOW - ie info only by report then the game plays okay, but when set it to the middle option of just hidden enemy then the game hangs on the processing of the first turn. i have tried this on of the other scenarios and it occurs there so the issue is not restricted to a scenario - anyone else getting this error?

Hello,

when you open a scenario, before playing, press the button "Settings", move the cursor called "speed of playback".
(When you patch the game, the speed of playback is very low and you have the feeling that the game is broken : no unit moves, nothing happens).
But it works perfectly.

As to the stack value, it is displayed on the right top of the screen.

awesome - thank you for clarifying this - i had played the game with full fow and it worked fine and i did not need to alter the playback speed at all for it, so didnt occur to me i would need to do it for when playing with hidden enemy setting

I seem to be having problems saving games since the patch. Although the game saves an ADX file, when I try and load the saved game it fails to upload.

thats odd - i could upload my save, is that a game started prior to the patch?

also the issue regarding the turn speed is cleared up now as seen above in the thread, but there is something wrong with the counters now that is absolutely definitely a bug or something - as all the in game counters are just using the same generic inf, cav, art for each side - there is no variety within these as was the case before, so there is little way to know whether a cav is heavy or light, a unit is guard or inf etc - these differing icons were in the game prior to the patch but now do not appear, though they remain in the counter folder.

There is a bug that shows up in the Ulm campaign mainly, it can appear in others. Was a simple fix, just a case where it hadn't come up for me probably because I was mainly testing 1809 scenarios at the end. I'll upload a new version that fixes this on Monday.

Also, I noticed the playback speed sometimes defaults to a weird value. I've fixed this too.

The games were all saved after the patch. I have uninstalled the game and the patch and then reinstalled both. The games load before the patch is installed but when I save and load after the patch it doesn't work.

It does seem to be an isolated issue and maybe connected with my machine.

Would it be possible to add a zoom button? On a large screen It would be great to have smaller hexes and a larger fraction of the map visible. Sometimes it is really hard to get a perspective of the whole game.

Hi Frank,

I have put the game and patches on to a different computer and there are no issues saving ad loading the games so I guess it must be an issue with my laptop.

The only issue I now seem to have is that the "jump map" doesn't enable me to switch from one portion of the main map to another like it did befoe the patch.

Cheers

Agathosdaimon, thanks for the reports.

First, intelligence reports are now only in games played with full fog which is why the report you see is empty.

Second, the display of various unit sub-types has been fixed for 3.01.

Third, the interface is completely new and that includes the graphics and one of the results of the changes is that I didn't reproduce the offset counter effect from the earlier version. Instead there's a text that displays number of units in a hex.

Frank also mentioned a weather bug which I've seen; the mud map offsets things and looked funky. I did increase playback speed and got the game to play ok. I was also wondering about the empty intel reports but since you can see everything it probably doesn't matter; however, I think it might be useful to players to still get those reports and then be able to compare/contrast what you're getting from reports versus what's really happening? I'll get back into it after v3.01 gets released.

well if you play with mid level Fog of War - ie, you know where your own units are but still dont know where the enemy units are until you spot them, , the intel report is also missing for this - this intel report for this setting was available previously. i think it should be perhaps an option - ie, check a box at the start to whether you want intel reports or not maybe
