Sorry to jump in, but seeing the (apparent) Japanese victory there makes me curious whether the Japanese night advantage from WITP is in WPO.

On round 2 the USN surprised the IJN but failed to take advantage of it.

It's happened more than once to me as well; an Allied force surprises a Japanese force at night, much inconsequential gunnery ensues, and nothing much happens.

Check the commander's aggression. I've had many a surface battle add up to nill, because both commanders were timid. But out really bloodthirsty guys in (talking 60 or higher aggression), and you will get 2 or 3 round knock out fights.

Both sides, in terms of experience and code bonusus, are fairly equal. Like World War I, it will basically come down to ships, guns, and commanders to carry the day.

On that note, I was testing an War Plan Red idea a couple weeks ago, to see if it would work. Unfortuneatly, the 5 QEs traded shots with the US "Big Five", but nothing happened. I checked the caommanders, replaced them with high aggression, and each side lost 2 BBs.

Well, they got ashore. I can't help feeling if this had been twenty years later the story would have been quite different.

I said I would have to stop them at sea, I didn't succeed. Here is my casualty list of ships so far, with Midway probably lost in the near future.

The bouyantly wounded... the two DD red numbers are in the 60s, still can't get the resolution on my screenshots.

The rest I won't show, suffice to say Adm Ingersoll (and 6 BBs) has been told to return to Midway and harass the landing efforts. No ship above 11 sys damage is going back to fight.

5th Battle Division is despatched from Pearl today, but due to coal requirements will only make normal speed... help is a long way away.

A much reduced BB force under Ingersoll finds defenceless targets... opens fire and clears the seas around Midway. That bought me some time. I still have to defeat the IJN fleet if it returns today, and hold it off until I can reinforce Midway. Not out of the woods yet. Capt Pickrell ordered to full speed, replacement escorts sortie from Pearl

Should we be worried that IJN Taskforce 10 (BC Kirishima and CL Yahagi) is commanded by Captain S. BROOKS ????? [:'(]

Only because it is doing so poorly. I asked for command of a IJN BC when TankerAce asked if anyone wanted a command in the WPO game. Who knew I'd be fighting myself. [:D]

More damaged BBs heading back to Pearl, a CA Brooklyn scuttled at Midway the remnants of Ingersoll's force sortie for one more defence of the area. Pickrell's Battle Division still days away. Regardless of who keeps Midway, the US Battlefleet will require extensive time in port.
