House rule compendium

Post by BoerWar »

Since the balance of this game appears to depend quite heavily on house rules it would be nice if the was a place where they are all compiled so that those of us relatively new to the game know what house rules are needed.

The ones I'm aware of are:

1. CV's can't attack more than (X) hexes from the coast
2. Limits on the number of UK units in France
3. Limiting the movement of French units out of N. Africa

What others should we know about?

War must be declared on Holland and Belgium on the same turn.
Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty & well preserved body,
but rather to skid in broadside, totally worn out & proclaiming "WOW, what a ride!"

I am interested in this game.  Do you think it is worth the money you spent on it?    Thanks!   Tagwyn

It really depends what you are looking for. Having followed the forum for quite a while there seem to be those that like it and a few that really don't. If you like Grand Strategy I'd suggest Grigsby's World at War A World Divided. If you prefer more of an operational level game that doesn't require alot of effort with regards to logistics then this is it.

I personally didn't enjoy the games against the AI because you have to give it a serious boost before you get a good challenge. To me that is like playing a dense cheater.

I have a couple games going pbem right know and I am enjoying those. There are some (political) deficiencies that I hope will be fixed in future patches. House rules are needed to balance out some of the gamier aspects (such as extremely powerful and long range CV's) and that is why I created this post. If you haven't been trolling this board for a while you won't know all of the house rules you should put in place to get a balanced game.

Overall it is an enjoyable game with the potential to be even better.

Barthheart - there is really no reason to make Germany declare war on both Holland and Belgium in the same turn. It was certainly an option for Germany to leave Holland neutral as in WWI. A better house rule might be - if Germany declares war on only 1 of Belgium/Holland, then it cannot declare war on the other for a period of say 6 months. This represents German diplomatic assurances (although hey, we're talking about the Nazis here) to respect the neutrality of the other Low country.

No coopération between US-UK/USSR. No transferts of allied planes in Russia. No tactical bombing on german unités attacked by russian lands units.

Major ports (kiel, Londres, Scapa flow, Brest, ect) are protected between other boats... no sea or sub attacks, only air attacks on boats based on major ports.
