Battles in Normandy Update

Korsun Pocket is a the second game using the award winning SSG Decisive Battles game engine. Korsun Pocket recreates the desperate German attempt to escape encirclement on the Russian Front early in 1944. The battle is a tense and exciting struggle, with neither side having a decisive advantage, as the Russians struggle to form the pocket, then try to resist successive German rescue efforts and last ditch attempts at breakout.

Battles in Normandy Update

Post by Gregor_SSG »

We have updated the Battles in Normandy page at http://www.ssg.com.au/ with some new screenshots and info.

The screenshots are definitely worth checking out, as they feature SSG artist Steve Ford's masterpiece, a massive map of the Normandy battlefield. Each hedgerow in each bocage hex was created individually and the results are spectacular.

The BIN page also contains a list of new features for the game. We will be making detailed explanations of each new game feature before release, and the first article, on the new rules for amphibious operations, is already up.

The bad news is that there is so much new stuff in BIN that we can't keep to our Q1 release date, which has now slipped to Q2. There is no point is giving a more precise date at this point in time, but we're already testing parts of the game, so it will definitely be finished some time in Q2.

Looks great. Don't release it before it's ready!

I agree with elmo, release it when you are satisfied that it is ready. It will be worth the wait!

What area does the BiN map cover?

I'd love to have a Normandy game system which covered the area bounded by the Seine, the Loire, and Brittany - not just Nomandy. This would allow scenarios where things went more according to pre-invasion Allied conceptons of the likely progress of operations - a much larger lodgement, with hard slogging to the Seine etc - with lots of interesting scenario posibilities.

Most Normandy games IMO tend to tie things too much to the historical progression - ie a crowded attrition battle on a narrow bridgehead, followed by a breakout somewhere. This is fine, but it's fun to explore the possibilities for something more fluid, even if it involves making some ahistorical choices with regard to air-power etc.
