"white-out" in Vista

Post by jamespcrowley »

Srolling on any map, including 2-D, induces a "white-out" of the graphics which results in constant flashing until scrolling stops.

This is fairly unpleasant and not condusive to a long session. I'm not epileptic but I can't imagine it being very good for someone who is. Either way, it detracts from the enjoyment of the game in a fairly big way.

Also, in the map editor, when you start to scroll, about 90% of the map from the centre outwards is "whited out (?)" permanently. This renders scenario construction useless.

I am running Vista Home Premium 32bit.

The game loads fine

I have the following setup:

Intel Duo core 6600, overclocked to 2.94. Geforce 8800 GTS and 2 Gig RAM. Display is 22" widescreen at 1680 x 1050.
Cheers

Check the advice in the readme file, you need to use a direct shortcut with "Disable Desktop Composition" checked in the compatibility tab.

Erik, thank you for that; that has worked.

My mistake for not fully reading the Readme. I suppose I'm just used to games working "out of the box"; I forgot this was an oldie and probably needed a bit of tinkering-with.

As for the Help issue, I have also sorted that out by downloading the necessary file from MS (thank you, Mattpenfold). However, I think that merits some mention in the documentation as it is not necessarily intuitive, to me at least, and could prevent access to a lot of useful information.

Thanks once again.
Cheers
