opening movie

opening movie

Post by Stvitus2002 »

Had a problem with the opening movie today. I get an error message
stating
"The program you are trying to run requires a current Indeo codec.
To obtain a current driver that is compatible with this version of Windows, please contact the manufacturer at http://indeo.ligos.com."

I'm running XP home SP3. Last week the movie played fine. There was an
Automatic update to windows this week(think it was tuesday), not sure
what they changed. The game itself is unaffected, just the opening movie.

Anybody else have this issue? Is there a workaround, like turning the opening movie off.

I did check out "http://indeo.ligos.com". They want me to buy a patch for $14.95. But
can't guarantee it will work.
"If you have been referred to this page by a pop-up message or a third-party software provider (for a game or other multimedia product), and are not certain that you require Indeo to make your software work, you must contact the original manufacturer and Microsoft. We cannot support or answer questions regarding third party software or hardware. In addition, as the Ligos Indeo Codecs package is a downloadable product, we do not offer refunds once the purchase has been made. Please see the Support and Sales FAQ pages for additional information."

Any suggestions?

Mine works fine, but it was installed post M$-attempt-to-make-me-downgrade-to-vista. I already had to format to remove that virus from my hard drive, and install a working OS.

Don't buy the patch. At most, reinstall SP, or roll back XP to prior to the hack. That patch is an obvious scam.

That indeo codec has been a problem for years. Long ago there was a codec for some other game that did work and it was a free download. You have to be good at google to find it.

Best is just to start from the mech.exe and skip the intro.

This thread at the Depot

http://www.spwaw.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=2662&

has some suggestions and a dead link to some codecs.
