8.0 any day now?

Some people have been wondering since May... Perhaps next year.

It has been discussed at length in several treads as of late: it’s very likely that will be released at the same time as MCSE, which should be in November.

Actually, 8.0 will have to be released either before, or with, MCSE, since the new Mega will not work without it.
What, me worry?

November, wow! That's only five months after the original ETA. I mean not even half year... Well done!

Actually, I'll add a sincere "well-done" to the team, and a few pointers.

Remember:

1) 8.0 is most likely a FREE product. I've never had such fun, consistently over years, with such a product, and this one's FREE!

2) It is entirely possible that bugs we find in H2H.FR may have been tracked/monitored by the crew working on 8.0 and corrected before release. I for one am more than willing to assume that the delay is due to the desire to produce a near flawless product. I also respect that greatly. I wish them luck, and I'll be happy as a clam when it does get here. In the interim, cut the sarcasm please, they're good folks preparing to give you a FREE product (and also looking forward to MC-SE, but that wasn't the topic of the thread).

Enjoy H2H.FR for a bit, all in good time. :D

Vath: When you say the bugs in H2h and ver 8.0 correcting them is confusing. Ver 8.0 will be an update of 7.1. H2H is a seperate game and will not incorporate 8.0 changes. (Unless its author Panzer Leo makes another change). This is not meant as a flame and I agree with all your other comments. resp: Chief

Chief, I think you misunderstood Vathailos

I read it as: since 8.0 and H2H.fr both are "builds" on 7.1 and in many ways alterations to it, any unforeseen "bugs" that popped up with Leo's work on H2H.fr may be avoided in 8.0. Both versions are very playable (and FREE), but we can all enjoy Panzer Leo's work with H2H.fr while we're waiting for 8.0 and MC-SE.

I don't think he meant it like H2H is buggy as such, or to say that it and 8.0 as anything in common (except, again, being based on 7.1)

Precisely. Thanks Bel, and sorry Chief (back went out on Wednesday last week, doped up on pain killers and muscle relaxers here, Airborne!) for being so vague.

And on that note, popping Polish tanks with 88s is both cruel and strangely satisfying when beginning a long WWII campaign with green troops. ;)

Vath/Bel as usual I stand corrected by my peers.

Vath: I agree very satisfying (in game sense only)

And finnally I find both versions equally fun and interesting. Bring on ver 8.0, but I don't believe it will equal H2H. Again that remains to be seen in the future. If it does then WAHOO !!!!!

Is that a hint of sarcasm I detect?

(Somebody find my soapbox and help me up on it! Thanks chief...)

Let me remind you that:

The vast majority of what you see in SP:WaW was done by volunteers, working on their own time, holding down regular jobs, and taking care of all the day-to-day things that have to be taken care of. These people (for the most part) do not work for Matrix, and are not compensated for their time in any way but by the the thanks of their peers, people like you, who enjoy playing this free game. This goes for the MC teams (who are compensated with a free copy of the MC, but they already had that because they created it), the OOB teams and all of the scenario and campaign designers. Even many of the graphics and sounds in the game come from volunteers.

What have you contributed to these efforts that entitles you to be sarcastic?

I think the true wonder here is not that 8.0 is only 5 months late, but rather, that it was done at all, and I think everyone who worked on it and contributed to it deserves a big pat on the back and a hearty "Thank You!" from the rest of us. (A few free beers at their local bar or pub would help too!)

(Climbing down from my soapbox in as dignified a manner as possible...)

I may be letting the cat out of the bag here...a little, but...

Having worked on MCSE I know that 8.0 is going to surprise a lot of people. Not only did the 8.0 team "learn" from things in H2H but Panzer Leo himself had input into it's creation. I think what you'll find in 8,0 will be a "blending" of 7.1 and H2H, using the very best from both.

I don't know he was actually being sarcastic Bernie. It's rare for a game to be released on schedule, and are often YEARS not just months overdue. How long were Command & Conquer fans made to wait for Tiberian Suns? That is a good example. Duke Nukem Forever I remember TV ads for several years ago, and it is still not completed. Doom fans were waiting patiently for Doom 3, and it's only now nearly completed. Return to Castle Wolfenstein was wanted since Doom was released, and this took another company doing the work to get it done.
Yes I am insane, I share my mind with a cat.
No I do not want to go to bed with you, so quit asking.
My idea of a relaxing morning is driving over my Fiancée's new boyfriend with an M1A2, but not because I'm jealous (it's because he's an absolute prick)

Interesting... Now, if someone could explain why KV-2s in H2H have rocket launchers on them , I will be all set!

No...that was sarcasism. He has been somewhat "coarse" in his posting of how disappointed he is with the timeframe of development for ver 8.0. How can I be certain? Because I remember the posts...Image
ETA has been "just two weeks" or "30 days" away since June.
IMO, Matrixgames has handled this whole v8.0 thing very badly and I am extremely dissappointed.
How much longer do we need to wait? Days, weeks, months?
Bernie was right to remind our Finnish friend that these things are not produced by people that have nothing else to do other than slave at projects day and night for free, simply so other non-contributing people can feed their need for instant gratification.

I don't mean to be rude...but it bugs me when people talk down their nose to others who are doing something for the community at large...without charge...simply out of love for the game!Image
