deployment question

I was deploying forces in the Russian Steel campaign. It was a small map with limited area to deploy. Many of my guys did not show up on the map when I auto-deployed.

Were they scared? Were the on a coffee break? Should I put them in a penal unit and have them find mine fields during the next battle?

Are there any ideas about how to avoid this in the future? Thank you.

Guess the auto deploy fuction wants to have plenty of space for it to work. I guess you have to use manual deployment, which allows you to avoid auto deploys 'lets dump some guys there as there is space' ideology. [:'(]
