Start with these threads (I assume you know how the production system works, and are looking for information on how to tweak the system):

tm.asp?m=1170470

tm.asp?m=802330

tm.asp?m=1118655

There are a more threads about this topic in the War Room, these are just the first that I found during a quick forum search. [;)]

Definitely read up on what you can - you can save yourself grief down the road w/ a few key changes.

I'm assuming this is a PDU-off game, i.e. your opponent can't upgrade any 2-engine squadrons to B24s?  Playing a human opponent or the AI?

Off the top of my head, I'd strongly encourage the following:

- HALT construction of the Shinano and late-war CVEs
- ACCELERATE construction of the Taiho (best Jap carrier of the war)
- Convert around 20 AKs in Osaka harbor to ARs (repair vessels, put 4 in each of your key ports)
- Convert around 10 AKs in Osaka harbor to MLEs (replenish minelayers out of ports smaller than size 9)

Playing the Japanese (particularly the first 2 years of the war) can be a real blast...have fun!

I accelerated Taiho in my own game but I have lately come to regret that.

Taiho might be the best Japanese carrier but Unryu class CVs offer more value for the money. For the cost of the Taiho you can almost accelerate two Unryu class CVs. Taiho has capacity for 72 planes and two Unryus can hold 130 planes (2 x 65). With two Unryus you can keep those fancy Zekes, Judys and Jills operational in one carrier if you downgrade the other for getting replacement aircrafts into the pool. With Taiho in early 43, you don't have any replacement available for the new aircrafts until the production starts in late 43.

My opinion is that you should focus on accelerating the Unryus rather than the Taiho.

Thanks for the replies

Did try to search but obviously must have put in wrong wording (never got on very well with searches), reading these files you suggested thanks.

Never thought of turning AK into AR and MLE, thanks.
Will also look into accelerated production of shipping, again something I had not considered.

Game is against Human opponent with PDF on. With no real house rules.

Any sneaky tactics that are not tooo against the grain would be appreciated.
If it worth KB hanging round Pearl for a day or 2?
Best places to invad early (1st week)

Thanks again

While I agree that ARs and MLEs are essential, I wouldn't start 20 ARs and 10 MLEs right off the bat. That costs 640 merchant shipbuilding points a day and would break the merchant shipbuilding program.
