Well there are not US troops do not a US mayor then!

No1 is a Canuck (see arm flash). I didn't think they look aircrew, especialy with no2 with glasses. But the 'T' on No1s arm suggest 'Telephonist ie wireless operator on an aircrew?

But then no 1's arm flash also has (?) RCEME - which makes me think engineer/sigs types? (UK REME was Royal Elec and Mech Engineers, but woudl have been called ROAC in those days?)

SO -
1. First crew to sink a u-boat off Canada

or

2. Managed to fix flat tyre on mayors car?

Well, they're canadian at least. Royal Canadian Electrical and Mechanical Engineers - RCEME.

The pinstripe man does have some resemblance to William Mackenzie King I suppose, but I wouldn't put my wager on it just yet.

Yes..the 3 soldiers seem to all be RCEME

The 1st chap has a standardized "trades badge" on his forearm. THe Wreath, "T" and crown means Grade 1. The standardized trades badge was adopted after Sept 1942

Maybe members of the "Devil's Brigade" composite unit used in the Aleutians. Remeber the movie with William Holden and Cliff Robertson?

Judging from the smiles..I would say a mission was accomplished...perhaps they worked on the Alcan highway?

Not likely to be Dieppe Raid vets.

Indubitably a photo taken the instant before the civilian fellow said to them, "Alright lads, now which of you wankers got my daughter a bit of the preggers?"
"Things are getting better!
...Well, maybe not as good as they were yesterday, but much better than they will be tomorrow!"

FYI, most of the Alcan was built by US Engineers. Two groups started at both ends and met up in the middle at ....the name escapes me at the moment, but suffice it to say it was in the Yukon on a cold wet wintery day. BTW of the 10,000 + engineers that worked on building the Alcan 4,000 were black.

OK..., so he's a Canadian Political Hack. And the Engineers are smiling because
they've just been told they are going to spend the war re-furbishing this clowns
home instead of being in the assult waves at Dieppe and Juno?

Just seen that film Sunday. They won the war in Italy not the Aleutians.

The Unit was indeed used in Italy, each mission basicly used up a section of the force, after 3 missions they were pretty much used up.
Favoritism is alive and well here.
