Out of curiosity, why are you hitting manpower (i.e. in 10 December attack)? [&:]

After reading some discussions of "how to hurt the Japanese economy" with a discussion by various IJ players, it seems that hitting MANPOWER usually strengthens the Japanese economy (since those pesky manpower centers are no longer eating the badly needed supplies...)

I wanted to see if I could create a firestorm but gave up it really is impossible fires go out too quick firestorms not working is really getting to be a pain
 
I get 25 points for a firestrom destroyed industry point and only 1 for a damaged one.

We all know strategic bombing doesnt work as intended but every so often I get bored and try it again to see if I can get it to work.
 
Without the chnce tyo create a firestrom I may have to try the risky deep invasion again as I cannot secure the points I need from the air.
 
PZB can and should just sit back beyond range 6 and let me pound on his close in industry.
 
All the time his airforce recovers.
 
I have limited numbers of P38's and all 5 P51 Sqns are now 30 xp because of rooky pilots.
 
My options are getting more and more limited - I guess the only other option it to committ my carriers again with supporting P512, P38 and B29 Strikes.
 
But my carrier air is not in great shape now either

Couple of days pass with no major action.
 
A lot of mediums are moving to India where they can attack supplies at Bombay - mostly Invaders because of the high bomb load.
 
I figure they are lower supply usage than B29's or 24's

Hey andy havent posted in awhile but have been following the AAR. Let me just say you have done a hell of a job. Few quick observations:

1. With regards to destroying industry thru fire bombing, if you rack up fires and then follow it up with your last nuke will the nuke amplify the fire dmg effect?

2. I know your going for a draw and that means only using one more nuke, but historicaly if Japan were this strong and inflicting this many losses i think that we would have seen a nuclear winter in the 50s from the # of nukes that would have been droped.

3. I personaly think your best path toward victory is in india free up those indian cities (with every recap your effectivly getting double VPs, your lowering his total VPs which you need x2 of to make up) combined with a heavy strategic bombing you might eek your VPs out.

I personally feel it's not worth conducting Manpower attacks. In my game vs Faber it was far more beneficial to target specific industries. Granted I was conducting my testing with 400ish B29's from Saipan vs HI. I never got the fires uop above 23K IIRC. Even keepign it at that level required constant bombing.  I could rack up 1K VP's with a good raid on specific industries but get only 100-200 VP's during Manpower attacks tops.
 
As I say this was with 400 x B29 from Saipan (I had air control due to Mustangs on Iwo Jima). Maybe with you being closer by and a lot more airpower it will be different. Personally I doubt it and i'll still say specific industries are the way to go.

I am tempted to hit Formosa to get more bases in range of the HI to allow B24's to join in

Do you have the surface forces to interdict the 1000s of barges he will bring over from china if you hit formosa? Also have you tried massive amounts of mines yet to stop him from shuttling troops? I know it doesnt work on atols or single hex bases but if he bring in troops at say teipei could you mine the waters and sink the barges (dont know if barges are immune to mines or not)

Yup if I decide to hit Formosa (and I am really tempted to do so as it will give me B17 bases and reduce my dependence on PI)
 
Its an easy win to get more bases in range of the HI
 
I do need to find more AV support from somewhere though.

OK Guys apologies I have been working a lot on AE's AI so my time has been limited not a lot to add tried a speculative attack on Bombay, decided not to hit the HI, reconsidering Formosa as an objective to get B17 AF's in range.
 
Not a lot to add really I am at 1.6:1 now so I need to get a LOT of points together to get a draw and I suspect it may be beyond me - but I am going to have fun trying

60 days to go its been a lot of fun guys I am glad I took this one on - I sooo wanted to hit the HI but I dont have the LCU firepower to do it. About 13,000 AV is simply not enough
 
Even if I pulled the 2,000 AV back from Bombay I would still be light I need US 1st Army, X Corps and the other reinforcements.
 
I am now dispersing forces to grab real estate I am hitting Formosa to give my B24 Groups a place to launch from for a last 60 day reign of terror over the HI.
 
Its almost time for an extended strategic bombing campaign. I think I will miss the draw I am at 1.4VP's:1 now c 140k to 100k
 
I think I can probably get about 10k more when I use my last Nuke and I get a wad when I take Bombay.
 
Once the British are back in the fight I may have the firepower to take Rangoon and Burma back which will get me some points so it will be a bit of a race for points.
 
But points are not really that important if I lose I lose its been a hell of a ride...
 
I will try to keep the AAR more up to date as we close in on the finish

I have managed to knock forts down a lot at Bombay and I think PZB is getting low on supplies I will keep the air offensive up for a while longer and hopefully capture Bombay before the end !!!

Reading back over the game the other night I tried to work out where had I gone wrong.
 
On balance so many things jump out at me.
 
I think the key was Marianas maybe I should have went for it..
 
I am happy with the call to bypass PI after Zamboanga and go for Malaya because PI would have been a hard hard fight with so strong a Japanese LCU contingent - it was a hard fight AFTER PZB removed all of his forces for the SEA
 
I think the turning point was my decision not to go hell for leather for the Marianas - I should have been braver..

You can see why I am confident of taking Bombay the casualties are near equal and the forts are coming down steadily surely that means the supplies are getting low ?

Taipei was hit dammed hard before a single man of the 4 Assaulting Australian Divs set foot on the base.

I threw everything into it !!!
