Where do people rebase them once sail out for patrol on Dec 8th? Trimacomalee, Pearl, or someplace a AS will relocate (Perth, Brisbane, Darwin, Suva, etc)

Any port will do if you have an MLE & AS in it, but better still a larger port (Townsville or Darwin once built up) that is not a shipyard, with 2 x AS, 4 x AR, and an MLE to keep them in good repair and arm them for the next patrol. I only send them to shipyards if they come back heavily damaged, or need upgrades* (and even then only till sys damage is <20 to free up the shipyard for other tasks).

- * don't upgrade the Argonaut - it loses its large mining capacity.

I use them to evacuate as much of the US air base units in the PI as I can. They can haul units to Cebu where PBYs fly them farther S. I eventually haul everything to Darwin and make sure to get a couple large supply convoys to Darwin so that units will rebuild. As units get shot up in the PI they are cheaper to "buy" and I haul out cadres. I currently am playing a game and I have pulled out cadres for just about every US air base unit and a Phillipine division, regiment, cav regiment and EN regiment. In addition, I haul British cadres out of Singapore to Batavia, march them overland to Tjilitjap where I shuttle them out using the small Dutch APs to Karachi. I don't use US subs much against shipping in '42 as they take a beating and their torpedoes get very few hits. I used to use them against shipping but ended up with a huge pile of damaged subs at PH and sank very few Japanese vessels.
