Good old-fashioned gameplay

In Hornet Leader PC, you command a squadron of the U.S. Navy’s elite F/A-18 Hornet Strike Fighters! You select the pilots and arm the aircraft based on real-world mission briefings. Once you reach your objective, you evaluate threats, and do what needs to be done to destroy the target!

Good old-fashioned gameplay

Post by hondo1375 »

When I saw this game announced a while back I was expecting a new version of Achtung Spitfire! or Flight Commander (?) so I was disappointed.

Then I read the early AARs and I thought it was worth a look, so I bought it.

I'm happy to report that this is a little gem of a game IMHO. Good, taught gameplay. Plenty of choices (except see below). Tense moments, and losing a good pilot is a minor trauma.

I've played Iraq 91 and now half way through Korea. Technolgy changes are a nice variation.

One thing I'd mention is the initial placement. I almost always group all my planes together (with the exception of air superiorty missions), so it would be nice to find a game mechanism to encourage alternative configurations for a bit of variety.

Also, being able to exit from outer zones before turn 4 would be nice (I've already voted in the poll, so don't count me twice!).
First wargame: Jedko's 1st edition "The Russian Campaign". First computer wargame: don't remember the name, but it was on punch cards.
