Request for resolution flexibility

Post by dragoniv »

Don't know much about graphics (I'm a lame-o server-side Java / C++ programmer) but it would be sooooo coooool if this game could run in 1024x760, 1280x1024, and up. 800x600 is soooo smallllll. ;)

Hello out there....there....there....there....

Man, what an echo!

Played the 3.0 version ApeZone published...for about 20 minutes. Then the interface freaked me out and I went back to version 2.0. Yep, that's right--too lazy to find and/or develop the no-cd crack for 2.1. Now don't get all federal on me, I bought 2.0 fair and square. I just *hate* putting CD's into my laptop. :)

I definitely prefer the 2.0 interface to the 3.0 release. But 2.0 was lacking in some aspects...hoped 3.0 would improve on 2.0, but it seems to be more of a game engine tweak release.

I'll probably toy with 2.0 for a bit longer...kinda got bored after six months of FreeLancer. If multiplayer SU ever comes out, now THAT will be fun! :)

I haven't played in, well, months (damned crash to destkop bugs), but depending on what they're using for graphics (I'm willing to bet it's DirectX), it should be a really minor thing to increase the in-game resoution.

Though adding a menu to change it could take up to a half an hour for a professional programmer.

A nice quick-fix would be to allow a modifier for resolution if you ran the program from the command line (i.e. "stun.exe -res 1024 -aspect 4to3" for 1024x768 on a non-HD monitor)

My main beef with using the current resolution is that my monitor at home sucks for non 1024x768 resolutions. The position and size of the screen is all messed up at non-1024x768 resolutions. Plus I like 1024.

Mine too...and I run 1280x1024 most of the time, so going back to 800x600 is like using my (very) old Z-286....all 8MHz of it! ;)

I haven't used 800x600 as a desktop resolution in, oh, about 6 years. And that was on my Packard Bell with a 60MHz Pentium.

What really gets me is that I got the Pentium 60, and then a few months later, the Pentium 90 comes out, and it's way way better than the 60 was...

Would've been better off with a 486DX, probably. I know my friend's 90MHz 486DX4 beat the crap out of my Pentium on a regular basis.

I've got some funny screenshots somewhere of the times I actually tried to get the bastard to work (it's been outta commission for nearly 3 years).

I managed to get the hard drive out of it (i think it was one of those crappy LBX form factor cases) and dump it onto my main computer. Of course, I also managed to short out the hard drive electronics, and caused the drive to start smoking while it was in my computer.

I tried hooking it back up, and now the drive ticks like a time bomb... it's funny and freaky at the same time. Especially considering how much that POS slow 1 GB drive must've cost back in the day.

The thing is totally useless, even the keyboard and mouse are trash now. It's almost terrible enough to be funny.

The Pentium 60s were a joke. My custom 486DX-120 mopped the floor with the Pentiums right up until the P100s with MMX started showing up.

Scary thing is...I didn't trade in my 120 until 2000....and then built an Athlon 600....which morphed into the current machine, a T-bird 1200.

My parents had a Packard Bell...actually had a couple of them. I DREADED going home to fix them, those machines were downright EVIL.

Actually, I have yet to buy a brand system...which may explain why

a.) my case is never closed on my gaming rig
b.) at any given time there may be $500-$1000 of parts lying around the room (ESD--ha!)
c.) most games need a "tweak" to get them running...but oh do they run FAAAAST.

I won't ever buy a brand-name system again, not since I built myself a killer machine for under $400. It's not the ubergamer, but it is a lot better than a K6-III 450.

AMD Athlon 1800+, Asus A7N266-VM (nFORCE 220D chipset), 256MB PC2100 (initially).

It's sad, since I paid well over $1500 for the K6-III when I got it. And that was only with 128 MB of PC133, a 450MHz processor, a Voodoo3 3000 video card, and a 22 GB IBM Ultra66 hard drive.
