DH Batting 9th

Post by motnahp »

An NL team's designated hitter automatically bats 9th in American League parks during interleague play and the World Series. Any prognosis on when this will get fixed?

I know that you can "work around" this in the same way as doing a double switch..by picking the DH in the batting order, then hitting the spot on the field to change him to a different position, putting the person that WAS playing that position, as the DH.

kg, I was referring only to AI-managed games.

Thanks, Crash

Ah, my apologies. I had not even thought of it from that angle, and I am glad that Crash saw it correctly.

motnahp,

If it helps any, the problem comes up when you are actively playing a game too, not just when you sim. It can be corrected easily before the game starts, but it's an inconvenience and one that may be easily overlooked.

On that same note, (EDIT: If you are playing a NL team) there is no way to designate WHO your DH will be (when/if applicable), so the game selects someone at random. It would be nice to somehow flag a player; perhaps in the Player Usage area? Something reading:

[_]  This player should be my Designated Hitter.
Checking this option will select this player as your designated whenever the rule applies in a game.

Just a thought.

That's a good idea, Frozen Stiffer, but I opted for a different solution. I simply outlawed the use of the DH. [:D]

I can picture that option in the Player Usage area, along with a drop down menu to select his preferred place in the batting order. The AI choosing some slugger and batting him 9th just doesn't cut it for me.

KG, it would be great if MLB had never gone the DH route. I was watching some 1974 World Series games the other day on the MLB network. This was AFTER the DH was brought along, but BEFORE it was allowed in the World Series. I got quite a kick out of seeing Oakland pitcher Kenny Holtzman smack a double in one game and a homer in another. He had batted exactly zero times in the 1973 and 1974 regular seasons!
