ok, i am baout to give up...

Post by himmelstoss »

....on this pbem thing!

i/we have tried it like a million times and it just does not work.

we totally stick to the game plan shown by Erik's post, but as soon as i receive this stage:

"He sends Turn 1 Orders to Player 1. "

and do this: "Player 1 loads Turn 1 Orders, adds in his orders, watches it execute. He then continues into Turn 1 Reaction and puts in his orders for that. He then sends those two phases to Player 2."

it does never get to the point of me being able to watch my order execute, as it right away saves the file, as soon as i press the "play" button, without executing it to the out box. and that just leaves me with one file to send to my oponent player 2 in this case.

this is hugely frustrating!!!

anyone else feeling like that......

thx for reading my "rant",[;)]

I have to admit, I haven't even tried PBEM with this. I don't play much PBM in any event, but it sures seems like it should work. Must be frustrating. I'm betting there arent many PBEM playing this.

Player 1 only gets the one file in outbox after setup. Player one has to receive two files from player 2, one file for player 2 setup and one file for player 2 orders turn 1.

Player 1 loads his setup and merges with player 2 setup and then can do orders turn 1 and reaction 1.

ORIGINAL: junk2drive

......Player one has to receive two files from player 2, one file for player 2 setup and one file for player 2 orders turn 1.....

not according to Erick's pbem sequence:

"3. Player 1 sends his setup file to Player 2, so that he has both setup files. Player 2 now has both setups and can do the Orders Phase for Turn 1. He sends Turn 1 Orders to Player 1."

so first player 2 is sending player 1 just one orders turn....and like i posted it does not execute the file so i can observe it and than have a go at my reaction phase in order to send for the first TIME two files to my oponent (player 2 in this case).

Yes....the PBEM in this is hugely bewildering to begin with. (I am Himmel's opponent).

Its all to do with the 80 second turn being split into two (Orders & Reaction). One player
always seems to end up sending the other player a reaction file that is one consequetive
number behind the orders file. This is never properly explained in the manual or in
Eric's explanation.

I've had about 3 or 4 aborted attempts trying to get a game going. Happily now my
three opponents and myself are away running.

But my main concern here is how off-putting this is going to be for newbees. If it took
me (a long-time CM player of many years) so long to get my head around the PBEM
sequence, I wonder what its gonna be like for newcomers to the game? (Or maybe I'm
just super-thick, I dunno....lol).
