A brand new campaign-based 3D tactical engine covering combat in World War II, from the developers at Koios Works. The first operation covered is the famous "Wintergewitter" or Winter Storm, a desperate attempt by Hoth's 57th Panzer Korps to break through to the encircled 6th Armee at Stalingrad and the Soviet counter-attack by 2nd Guards Army that drove them back.

Hi,

Congratulations… a great game [:)].

I had my doubts, as I guess most CM fans did, but you have pulled it off very well. It is a great addition to the tactical warfare gaming world. Lets not get into which is best, CMBB or PzC, but both are great and the lack of Borg/Absolute spotting in PzC is a big plus.

Now… what do I miss from CM that even with the reservation that PzC is not trying to be copy of CM I would still like to see in this game. Two features spring straight to mind. Both relate the fact that it is a reality that there is only “one controlling mind” and so there is a need to add features to allow the single controlling mind to handle games of any size.

Firstly, a feature that can toggle no and off all the target and movement lines as in CM. Secondly a toggle for trees to be on or off. In the orders phase it would help hugely, speed things up a lot, if one could toggle on all the target and movement lines, plus toggle away the trees. I would always play the movies with all looking as realistic as possible, but during the pause for setting orders/reactions it would speed things up massively if I could toggle on all the movement and target lines but get rid of the trees.

Do remember that with a game of this detail, there is really “too much” for any single player to realistically handle. You tend to overlook squads that are under fire and being killed off which in reality would take evasive action to get themselves out of trouble.

More points will follow when I have played more… but to my mind PzC has been a definite success… I look forward to long line of them. I will buy them for sure [:)].

PS. The two features I request above would help newer wargamers even more than veterans like myself. New wargamers would be in even greater need of a way to quickly review all their units.

Hi,

Just a quick add on.

This game has truly massive potential, it could very quickly move to being far better than CMBB [:)], as it should be five years later… [;)].

However some way to quickly review ones troops in the pause before the orders and reaction turn resolution movies would be huge help. It may not be the way I suggest with all movement and target lines toggles on, but some help it important. In my very prejudiced view [:)].

Good post Kip. Glad you are enjoying the game.
In CM I rarely turn trees off as I play with bases on. I also use the larger scale units and target/paths on option.
I think the scale of units is fine as is but would like to see some kind of colour or bases as the units tend to disappear in all the whiteness of a winter battle.
Mouse wheel scrolling viewpoint is much better than CMs fixed levels. Camera controls are better in general. The inverted mouse setting is perfect for me. I asked at MMGs forum for this in TC2M and was told no. I just can't get into MMGs limited viewpoints and real time play.

One thing,

The "Insert" key will reduce the trees to the base terrain and should help in locating your troops. You will be looking at a bunch of flat coloured squares instead of the trees.

I think having a feature of putting a base on a unit would help in seeing the infantry. I should be optional to turn it on or off. I know I have trouble at times seeing my infantry in the woods at times.

I think this is only part of the area of status information for PZC.

The things mentioned are the obvious ones that spring to mind when coming from CM, but there's really more need for better status overview, in ways that CM lacked, too. Artillery is an example.
