Range Rings

Post by Arjuna »

We've added a new display feature that draws the different types of fire and bombardment range rings around selected units. This can be set to show None, Anti-Personnel, Anti-Armour, Bombardment and All range rings.

Image

Here we have set it to show just the bombardment rings and we've selected the Bn mortars and the Div Fld Regiments.[8D]

RE: Air Strikes Time Remaining

Post by Arjuna »

We have also added the min and max time remaining for air strikes. In the example below they are both the same as we only have one air strike. If you get more than one arriving the max figure will be based on the latest available strike.

Message List

Post by Arjuna »

Here is the new Message List which records each message. Messages appear both on the map ( at the top ) and in the list. You can filter out the messages being displayed both on the map and in the list according to their priority ( flash/urgent/routine ). You use the filter button on the Display Tool Bar for the on map messages and the separate filter buttons at the bottom of the list for the List messages.

Note we now also provide a full date text when you rollover the Start and End times.

excellent work

adding the tank icons in the equipment tab has taken care of my request .... thanks!!

count me on the list of buyers

by the way ... I know the answer is somewhere on this forum but ... should I assume the old HTTR scenario's won't work with the new COTA engine?

... and is it possible to create new scenario's for the eastern front?

Some really helpful new features I must say. It isn't my "favourite" theater, but CotA have sparked my interest. I'll be looking into buing some books about the campaigns very soon. :)

Your assumption is correct.

Yes but you will be restricted to the existing Estabs which do not cover Soviet units. FYI we are setting up an East Front Data Design Team ( DDT ) which will start developing the data content for battles on the Eastern Front. Part of their task will be to develop the Soviet Estabs. I'm hopeful that we should be able to see our first East Front title about a year after COTA is released.

While I'm at it we're hoping to sign off on COTA within the next month. It will then be up to Matrix to do their bit. But COTA release is imminent. [:)]

Indeed. All in all, it makes me very angry.

Absolutely. It is another case of Panther and Matrix ignoring customers completely. I made it completely clear months ago that this was not an area of operations I was much interested in...AND THEN THEY MADE COTA ANYWAY. It makes me mad. I was all set not to buy any more games until I had saved for a new (non-coal powered) PC, and then Panther & co go and mess everything up. Now I have to delay a new machine just so I can buy this game and the background reading. It is so crassly insensitive. They think they can just go ahead and design a great looking game without any thought as to their customer's needs and wishes.

That's very encouraging to hear. The eastern front is full of some of the most awe inspiring battles of the whole war. The Kharkov/Belgorad area would by my choice for a beginning since Kharkov has fought over several times and just north of there Kursk and Orel areas were scenes of the greatest battles of the war. Simply put, that area of the world saw more battles on grander scales than anywhere else.

Also, to add to the list of maps and OOB's: around Smolensk (crossing the Dnepr - 1941); Cherkassy/Korsun; west and northwest of Stalingrad (Kalasch-Aksay River-etc) to cover the attempted relief of the 6th Armee (maybe including stalingrad); Lake Padoga?/Leningrad - excuse spelling; the Crimea (Manstein's grand victories); OR another idea: base the battle on Generals - Manstein, Rauss, Balck, etc. etc. ... I could go on ... but ...

My juvenile post aside...

This really looks very very good.

Irrelevant - as you are busy humping away getting CotA finished, and have already planned the next instalments - but I would love to see someone try and use this engine on napoleonics. I was looking at the Wargamer review of HPS' Wagram - the comments re what the reviewer really wanted from a napoleonics game engine - and it just cried out "HttR!". I know there are a million details why it would not work, but the overall command AI would be a superb revolution for the era. I can dream.

Sounds good to me... Age of Muskets at this scale (several units to a Battalion) would be fantastic.. (the ground scale would have to be smaller though) then you could simulate different attack types like 'A Prest and the many different other attack formations they used in battle. We would have to get an expert like Brent Nosworthy on board for a project like this though and it would be no small undertaking.

Cheers, Bil

Hartford688,

Please accept this as a formal apology. We here at Panther Games care for our customers and regret any undue stress caused by the imminent release of COTA. But may I take this opportunity to point out that we too are severely stressed by the prospect of potential gamers giving priority to hardware purchases at the expense of our software. This is a very worring trend and we are doing our best to divert customer liquidity into our own account. By the tone of your previous post I'd say we're making progress. Many regards,[;)]
