Facing of units deployed onto map

Post by Hoyt Burrass »

Is it possible to change the facing of units when you drag them from the units list onto the map...I know I can change their deployment status, but cannot figure out how to change their facine or frontage

Thanks in advance

There is no way to change the facing from North during setup, but I believe that issue is on Arjuna's task list. It's not a show-stopper since the AI will instantly change the facing of a unit to greet a visible threat without losing deployment status.

I'm not sure that this occurs if the unit is under player control...If facing changes, then it should be reflected in the unit footprint....correct? or could facing change without being reflected in the footprint symbol? I'll try and post a screen shot when I get home.

Thanks for your time

HK,
In game terms, the facing of the unit is only reflected by the facing of the footprint, which is an abstraction of the the the entire unit's focus on the battle. So until the footprint turns to the enemy, the flanks and rear are more exposed, and the firepower is less, than the front facing.

Ok then, (and I am really not trying to be a smartass here, just trying to get a handle on a game I enjoy immensely), your initial response was
the AI will instantly change the facing of a unit to greet a visible threat
...that doesn't seem to jive with
So until the footprint turns to the enemy, the flanks and rear are more exposed, and the firepower is less, than the front facing
...could you explain the discrepancy between those statements (again, wanting to understand, not criticizing or complaining[&o])

I started the thread because in designing a non-historical scenario, I ran across a situation where units deployed with the default facing north, were hit in the flank and did not turn to face the threat.

You're observations are not deceiving you. In my post, change "instantly" to "hopefully"[;)]

In my post, change "instantly" to "hopefully"

that makes a world of difference [;)]

thanks for your explanation...I expect if they weren't Greek Cav...it might be closer to 'instantly'...no offense to my Greek friends [;)]
