Any way to save your DW2 settings?

Post by scotten_usa »

So you can restore them after a patch/upgrade?

I tried searching but couldn't find this answer. It's rough for me to try to remember my settings when I play the game again after a hiatus.

You can back up the two settings files in the DW2/data folder, but after version upgrades they are not accepted every time a new setting is added.

The settings files are in a binary format so I guess there isn't the flexibility that would exist with an XML parser.

When I started playing I changed some hotkeys to my liking. I don't do that anymore, because they get reset all the time.

Hotkeys should stay the same in every playthrough. Mine have never reset. I'm guessing you play on the beta?

Thanks for the replies - I'll try this.

I started a new game earlier this week and find all my settings have reverted due to whatever patch/hotfix was applied today. Frankly I'm pissed that I need to go back in and change my zoom, sound and interface settings AGAIN.

Matrix, please fix this! This has been an issue since DW classic when I started playing in 2010.

We know this is a major pain point for many players, and we're aiming to revisit this area sometime in the future. The way the game is currently structured, we periodically have to reset player settings to minimize stability issues.

This is not the way you should go. ;)

It IS a major pain point. Especially for people who choose to be beta testers to help debug/improve the game and have to constantly re-enter their settings (talking about public betas here).

So if for the moment restructuring the game is too much work and time, then why not write / add a function that, before resetting the settings would save them, and, after the reset, would import back the settings that can be imported (those that are the same)?

Ideally, not in a distant future... A higher prioritization of QoL improvements would be highly appreciated, by myself, and I'm sure, by many others.

On one hand, I like the choice that was made to include all (?) QoL/UI improvements in the free patches, because it gives full access to those changes to people that don't want or can't afford the DLCs. In my cases, I've bought all the DLCs, including the last one, not necessarily because I wanted their content, but mostly to support the game development.

But on the other hand, I would gladly pay for a DLC whose focus would entirely be on UI / UX / QoL. This is how important those improvements are to me.
