How Did The Bismarck Manage To Sink HMS Hood?

Rule the Waves III is a simulation of naval ship design and construction, fleet management and naval warfare from 1890 to 1970. and will place you in the role of 'Grand Admiral' of a navy from the time when steam and iron dominated warship design up to the missile age.

Hood never should have been out there she was still undergoing construction on rebuild.
Favoritism is alive and well here.

Think you are mixing your drinks. Hood was overdue rebuild, but was perfectly operational. PoW was still working up/fixing builders/design faults.
I have a cunning plan, My Lord

+1

The only other capital ships immediately available were KGV and Repulse. KGV was the fleet flag, and Repulse was too under armored to risk, compared to Hood.

Further afield there were Rodney and Nelson (too slow, and out of range), and some of the R Class BBs that were totally outclassed, and also too far away.

Tovey had to work with what he had, and Hood and PoW were it. IIRC KGV and Repulse did sortie, but with the newly commissioned carrier Victorious. Hood and PoW with their destroyers were supposed to cooperate with Norfolk and Suffolk for the initial intercept I think.

They should have sent everything they had. As we all know, once a battle is started, the enemy is completely blocked from any decisive naval action for the rest of the month, except for merchant raiding, so it makes no sense to maintain reserve forces.

I may be mistaken, but I thought we were discussing the real life Battle of the Denmark Strait, and not RTW3 gameplay in this particular thread?

My apologies if I am wrong. I was referring to the historical situation the British Home Fleet faced when trying to intercept the Bismarck and Prinz Eugen in May 1941.

So you mean to tell me there is a difference? Basing my understanding on war solely on game mechanics is not a good idea because they don't coincide?

For whatever reason I think we're just talking past each other right now, and I'll take 50% of the blame for that.

I'm going to refrain from any further comment in this thread.
