Rebuilds, officers and autoresolve

Rule the Waves III is a simulation of naval ship design and construction, fleet management and naval warfare from 1890 to 1970. and will place you in the role of 'Grand Admiral' of a navy from the time when steam and iron dominated warship design up to the missile age.

Rebuilds, officers and autoresolve

Post by kvob »

Overall I'm really enjoying this game. It's a good step forward from RTW2.

And mentioning RTW2 brings me to a few of points.
First: I'm sure that in RTW2 a ship would receive an O in parenthesis when it had become obsolete and was due a rebuild. That doesn't seem to happen in RTW3. I'm rebuildng my ships on a ten-yearly basis but it would be nice to get some kind of indicator rather than scanning the dates. I notice a drop in speed over time is indicated so that is a good indicator in itself but I rather liked the (O).

Officers: I really like this feature but sometimes they seem to just disappear and I don't notice until I hit the next turn button and then get the info that a ship needs a captain. Couldn't a captainless ship (or one due a rebuild) have its text highlighted in a different colour so that it stands out from the crowd?

Autoresolve isn't what I was expecting. It's really of use when winding up a battle and not really an autoresolver in the way I thought it would work (I thought it would be like the option you get with a raider and with no need to go to the battlemap).
This is especially pertinent with officers. I thought that maybe the whole point of autoresolve would be to rely more on the proficiency of those characters actually controlling their own ships.

These are meant to be constructive criticisms because I still really like this game but I feel there are still parts that can be imprioved upon. Maybe we'll see them in RTW4:)

There's definitely still the (O) indicators in game-perhaps the year column where it appears is too narrow in your game?

That's a great suggestion with officer highlighting.

Ah! You are right!
I've just extended the year column and there is an (O) after all. :D
