DB corrrections/ Additions

Post by dpabrams »

Greetings,

Super job on AB2! So much more immersive and intense. I wonder if there should be a thread somewhere for database additions and corrections? I'd like to start with these.

Faction-U.S. Army-flight- 30-UH-60 transport flight needs to have years and months entered under ID.

Faction-U.S. Army-formations187-M42 Duster SP AA-needs to have from year 1965 to month 10 under ID.

Hoping for an F-16, very common in NATO during the game.

In the future will there be the ability to set up dug in and be and reverse out of the dug in position and advance back into the dug in position? It was common for tanks to assume a hull down position in a dug in position and back up to a turret down position, reload and then advance forward into the firing ramp/dug in position assume a hull down position and continue fighting. As currently configured once a unit leaves a dug in position it cannot reoccupy it.

Thanks for the sharp eye; I’ve fixed those now. Actually, Duster was not an error since it represented the reorganized 1st Battalion, 44th Artillery of the Regular Army in Vietnam. However, upon further thought, I decided to make it available on the grounds that the US Army might have realized HAWK-based defense was not sufficient and the Vulcan was not yet in service. Generally, the National Guard and what was available in the continental US is like opening Pandora's box (M42 was used until 1988), and it would probably have been better handled by a separate faction, considering that both auto-purchasers and players will likely make some fairly ahistorical mixes for the European theater.

As for the F-16, it was originally not included on the grounds that better A-G platforms were available. The philosophy behind this is that pure fighters would have been occupied with air combat rather than close air support. In truth, even now in the game, air support is far above what would have been available to ground troops in the case of a major war. Generally, CAS would have been limited to helicopters and occasional A-10/Harrier/Su-25 flights and similar aircraft, because not only would there have been insufficient flights, but interdiction targets would have been prioritized (also the reason why there are no strike aircraft like the F-111 or Su-24). However, when we made an exception to that rule for the Dutch (who only operated F-16 squadrons at the end of the Cold War), the case was made for the US Air Force to have it too. But it is not a high priority right now and is dependent on the artist's schedule.

When it comes to firing ramps, I can’t say much right now, given that there are more pressing issues to tackle.

And lastly, the ACAV was designed specifically for counterinsurgency operations in Vietnam. The ACAV modifications were not adopted outside of Southeast Asia, and after US troops withdrew from the area, the ACAV concept was abandoned. In the game, though, there is an M113 model variant with shields, but not the 360° protection kit. If I recall correctly, some were seen post-Cold War, but that was due to rediscovered storage. While it’s technically doable, I prefer not to venture into hypotheticals, as it really complicates the whole method behind what should be in-game or the cut-off dates.

Cheers!

Armored Brigade Database Specialist!

You have done your homework and your reasoning is sound.

"In the game, though, there is an M113 model variant with shields" I will have to dig for this. Of course you're talking to a guy who has modified and Vietnamized a bunch of units to play 1965-68 scenarios in the jungles of the Plzen Region and is using Polish Territorial units to simulate the NVA.
