Operation Epic Fury, 2026

Post by Phoenix1 »

A foreword:

If you are reading this, thank you for visiting! This is my first time trying to create a scenario; I wanted to create something I would want to play while also attempting to emulate the current conflict in the Middle East. It is not perfect, and I welcome any feedback you can provide. Please note that an operation of this scale and depth will take a significant toll on Command's engine, and as a result, it may not run smoothly for all users. I have a NASA rocketship computer and I struggle sometimes. I apologize for this, but the game is not necessarily meant to accommodate such grand campaigns. You may find that the issue resolves itself over time as you execute strikes and destroy targets, thus lowering the amount of units. So get to it!

I thought about releasing this as a beta, and making some further alterations based on user feedback. Some things I considered adding:
1) More intriguing/realistic mechanics around the Strait of Hormuz. Such as: A civilian faction staffed with ocean tankers trying to cross the Strait of Hormuz. When Iran fires upon them, they turn around and remain in/around the strait. One of the goals or victory conditions of the player would be to "control" the strait by keeping four U.S. warships in the strait. Another goal could be X amount of commercial or military ships passing through the strait. This would require additional computing resources that I'm not certain are available given the scope and scale of the scenario.
2) Additional political or destabilization victory goals. Such as: Destroy all/most Basij stations and IRGC bases to increase "political score" inside Iran, thus theoretically allowing the conditions for the Iranian people (not represented) to "rebel," or whatever the USG was thinking at the start of the conflict. Not fully realistic, just an idea I had.

I would like to thank Blizz for his guidance and expertise. For those of you who have played Operation Twilight Mallet 2027 (and if you haven't, you should), this will look somewhat familiar to an extent. Shoutout to Claude. I would also like to thank the following twitter accounts, as this would not have been possible without their excellent work throughout this conflict:

@DefenceGeek, @MATA_osint, @Saint1Mil, @Andyyyyrrrr, @rocketron101, @ArmchairAdml, @vcdgf555, @steffanwatkins, @FaytuksNetwork, @Osinttechnical, @ianellisjones, @Aviation_Intel, and the whole TWZ team.

OPERATION EPIC FURY — February 28, 2026

SCENARIO DESCRIPTION

In the wake of the Twelve Day War in June of 2025, as well as the largest protests in decades, the U.S. and Israel assessed that Iran was weak and the time had come to launch a full-scale operation. The Twelve Day War, which resulted in Operation Midnight Hammer and the supposed destruction of Iran's nuclear program, only emboldened Iran to continue their asymmetric warfare strategy against their longtime regional foe, Israel, as well as the U.S.

American B-1 bomber strikes were called off last-minute by Donald Trump in January of 2026 amidst the most brutal internal crackdown by Iranian security forces in decades. Iran crushed the uprising, killing an estimated 12,000 to 40,000 protestors and enacting a total internet blackout. Iran suppressed the protests — but emerged internationally isolated, economically broken, and militarily weakened, it's nuclear program and its enriched uranium stockpile unverified by any international inspector since June, 2025.

Washington and Tel Aviv drew the same conclusion: the window would not stay open for long. The U.S. began surging assets into the region in late January/early February of 2026. Hundreds of strike aircraft, helicopters, heavy lifters, aerial refueling, intelligence collection, and unmanned aircraft flooded U.S. airbases in the Middle East and Europe. Patriot and THAAD batteries were redeployed from several areas of the globe to protect U.S. bases and interests in the Gulf, as well as Israel. The Ford (eastern Mediterranean Sea) and Abraham (northern Indian Ocean) carrier strike groups, as well as supporting destroyers and submarines, raced to CENTCOM. These significant equipment movements coincided with high level nuclear talks between the U.S. and Iran, mediated by Oman, which supposedly continued leading up to the opening strikes.

On February 28, 2026, the United States Central Command and the Israel Defense Forces launched the largest coordinated air campaign in the Middle East since the 2003 invasion of Iraq. Codenamed Operation Epic Fury by the U.S. and Operation Roaring Lion by Israel, the strikes targeted Iran's nuclear infrastructure, ballistic missile forces, IRGC leadership, and naval assets in a synchronized opening wave involving over 200 aircraft, Tomahawks, drones, and support aircraft.

Iran's Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei was killed in the opening Israeli strike, launched with civilian aircraft still mid-air over the region. Iran responded immediately with fury, sending hundreds of ballistic missiles and thousands of drones at US bases, Gulf states, and Israel. The Strait of Hormuz was closed to international shipping.

You command Coalition air forces from 0500 GMT on February 28th, approximately two hours before Israel launched their opening salvo of ballistic missiles at Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei's compound. The stated war goals are: eliminate Iran's nuclear capability, destroy Iran's ballistic missile and drone arsenal, dismantle their navy and air force, and bring about a change in Iranian leadership. U.S. President Donald Trump's stated timeline for this operation is two to four weeks.

Scenario duration: 28 days.

RECOMMENDED EXPERIENCE LEVEL: INTERMEDIATE/ADVANCED.
