v1.096 items

Post by MjH »

The following are items noticed in 3 games (coach vs. computer) using the default Canadian league, play-book and rules with the latest patch.

- The animation seems smoother. This is epecially noticable in the opening of a game (the spiraling panoramic shot of the stadium). I would always get some jerkiness there, but now there is none -- I have not changed my video settings.

- Field goals look better. The height of the kick has improved.

- The second half kick-off is back, and the end-zone 'dance of doom' is gone. I'm actually seeing players get the ball in the end-zone and kneel down for the touch-back -- the kicking team isn't getting their single-point though. [:)]

- Shouldn't an injured player be equivalent to an inactive player? I have a couple of injured players, but I am unable to activate any of my "practise roster" players to take their place (you get the "too many active players" message when trying to start a game).

- The punters are off the steroids, but they seem to have become mechanical. 95%+ of the punts and kicks are either 50 or 57 yards.

- In a league game, there is only one time-out per half allowed. In the quick-play game, three time-outs per half are allowed.

- The instances of the incomplete/tackled by play had become rare in the earlier patches, but they are occurring regularly again. It appears (though I'm not completely sure) that these show up in the statistics as sacks. I know for sure that they aren't showing up an incomplete passes.

- The game clock runs during a PAT, and when a penalty is called. It should be stopped, shouldn't it?

- The fumble/interception rate needs to be tweaked back down. With the original release and the first update, I saw no fumbles and only a few interceptions in 6 games. With 1.096, I have seen 9 interceptions and 37!!!!! fumbles in 3 games.

- The quarter-end statistics are wrong when it comes to field goals. The team page will be missing kicks (e.g. 4/5 when it should be 4/6), and in the offensive page the numbers are right, but the same kicker will be listed multiple times (e.g. ORTENZO 1 of 2, ORTENZO 1 OF 1, ORTENZO 2 of 3,)

- I had one game where the stats overfilled the statistics page. Instead of having a scrollbar, the statistics spilled out into the surrounding screen area.

- The fumbles/fumbles lost statistics are not listed in the quarter end statistics page.

- I play the game in 1027x768 resolution. When the game ends and returns to the main menu, the screen doesn't reset to 800x600 properly, so the buttons/menus etc. are smaller and pushed up and to the left of where they usually are. This has only happened since v1.096.

- The three minute warning was called as my offense was lining up to run a play. The game put me back into the play-selection screen. I changed my mind and selected a different play. The game ran the play I originally selected prior to the three minute warning.

- Late in a quarter, I scored a touchdown. The clock expired immediately after the PAT. The quarter-end statistics were shown, but when I pressed the 'continue' button, instead of having to kick off, I was given the ball back on the defending teams' 15 yard line, with 1st down.

- There are still some strange things going on with penalties and the accept/decline display box. For example, A 1st down play results in a loss. The second down play results in a gain, but 6 yards short of a first down. A penalty (illegal contact, I think?) was called on the defense. After accepting the 5 yard penalty, the line of scrimmage is now 1 yard from the original first down marker, but the offense is given first down. i.e. the offense has 1st and 1.

- A second example. A team receives a deep punt, and runs it back to their own 13 yard line (give or take). The kicking team receives a face masking penalty. The accept/decline box lists the option for accept as: 1st and 10 on the kicking team's 12 yard line???? The penalty is accepted, and the receiving team is given the ball on their own 28, which is correct.

- A third example. The offense lines up at the 20 yard line. The quarterback is sacked for a 7 yard loss. The defense is called for an illegal contact penalty. The offense accepts the 5 yard penalty and is given a first down on the 18 yard line. The offense is now 1st and 12. The ball should be on the 25, and the down should be 1st and 5.

- The decline option is almost always blanked out, only once in the three games did I see a accept/decline display box where there was text for the decline option.

- First downs that are awarded due to penalties are showing up in the statistics. I don't believe they should be included?

- The game needs to be better with injury substitutions. I had a quarterback go down, and for the rest of the game, the #2 guy on the depth chart was continually coming in from the side-lines as a late substitution. He would be in the huddle for the first play of every series, but all subsequent plays he would have to run in from the side-lines, killing four or five seconds on the play clock. This is rather annoying, especially when you need those extra seconds to run a play with motion, or you're trying to run a 'hurry-up' offense in the last couple minutes of a half.

- The generated schedule for the 10 team Canadian league is not balanced. I had assumed that every team would play each other twice, once at home and once on the road. I noticed that Regina plays a Calgary, Vancouver, and Edmonton three times, Halifax only once and doesn't play Toronto at all. Is that intentional?

- At one point, the player status (i.e. active, injured, inactive) scroll field in the player display would not show, but was replaced by a blank, white area. It has not re-occurred.

- In the last game I played, the computer team's quarter back was named Tappis. In the final game statistics, his name (in all places where it appeared) was listed as 'T11PIS'. Interestingly enough, he had 11 completions for the game.

- Is the weather forecast at the beginning randomly generated without regards to the stadium? Several times I have seen the weather as: "Inside 20c/68F" where the game is in an outdoor stadium. As well, I have not yet seen a game where the weather is bad (9 weeks into the schedule).

FYI, first downs due to penalties should be in the statistics.

I have notice this aswell. Before, Fumbles hardly ever occured in a game, but now, unless the ball carrier has a Hands rating of 99, there is a very good chance he will fumble. I could understand if a player has a Hands rating of 10 or 15 points that he is very likely to fumble, but if I have an average player with a rating of 50 or 60 points, I would imagine he would not fumble that often. I wish we as users, could edit the occurance rates of Fumbles and Interceptions with the MainData Database file (like other gameplay values) so that we can adjust this ourselves. Football Pro 99 had this ability and was quite useful for users.

As for your other bug reports, I have ran into many of the same bugs from time to time playing in US Rules.

MjH, thanks for the detailed report. Some of the issues have been addressed in beta and I am sure David will want to see the others.

When fixes cause other things to change, it is really hard to get a hold on them without having user support.

Not a problem. I've been waiting for a Canadian rules game (with coaching mode - I don't have the finger dexterity for the arcade-type games) for a long time -- I actually downloaded and tried to play the demo of David's original CFL game, but the computer I had at the time was way too under-powered to run it, so I never purchased the game.

Now that I've purchased Maximum Football, I'd like to see all the problems worked out. I'm tring to put as much detail in the descriptions as possible, because I understand (I develop software for a living as well) what it is like to try and fix software problems when the entire bug report says: "it doesn't work". Thanks, we will check into these MjH. Please also give the latest v1.0.0.101 a try and let us know if you spot anything new there. Your detailed report from v1.0.0.96 is much appreciated.
