Post by simmer »

1)After playing an entire game the following was observed. The kick-offs and punts need to be more elevated and have increased hang time.

I attempted a 2 point conversion and failed. The caption gave me a first down. I did not receive the points. There was a total of 28 sacks in the game. It was a real nice feature at the end of the game with the highlights. It would be nice to have those camera angles in the game play. I like how the players gang tackle, and the running backs can accelerate through a hole and accelerate. The receivers have a nice YAC average. I think that this game after edited will be a great time. I relly tjhink that with all the addons and utilities that this will be right up there with FBPRO.

All punts are done at between 40 and 45 degrees. The 'average' punt is kicked at 38 degrees so the game is actually giving more 'up angle' than you'd get in real life.

The average is only 38 degrees??? Are you sure David? In all the years I have watched Football games, good Punters and Kickers that I have seen usually have the ball kicked at least 45 degrees (even a little more) in a game. I'm not punt expert, but I thought the best punts are always high with long hang time, and long distance. I don't see how Angle would play that much of a factor with Punts. Maybe I'm wrong on this, I don't know.

As it is right now, I guess its not a huge factor for the game as it seems to work ok at the current angles, but I must agree with the guy above, it does look a little unnatural to me.

I need to correct my above statement a bit. when I said 38 degrees, I meant for place kicks.

The physics of football - Timothey Gay, PHD (Harper publishing) page 140 "take the lanuch angle to be about 38 degrees".

Now, that's not to say there are never kicks higher or lower than that number, but this book is fairly clear that the typical place kick is 38 degrees.

A typical punt is between 65 and 70 degrees but the range is much shorter.

Due to the 'real time processing' needed for the game the vast majority of the physics in this book had to be greatly simplified, but things like average kicking and throwing angles were used as per the book.

Hey David, as much as that book you got may have more credentials then I have, but in all the times I have kicked FG Place Kicks, I have notieced that my kicks did better if I could kick that ball at 45 degrees. But I really have nothing to complain right now David as the Feildgoal kicking seems find at the moment in MaxFB.

As for the hang time and height of Punts and Kickoffs, I will admit that the kicks do seem a little unnatural, but don't seem to effect the game performance that much. Is it impossible to add more height and hang time to Punts David? I know this could have a problem with Return situations and stats. If it is a problem, it might not be wise to change it.

I remember the instruction manual for the original FPS Football said, "A 45 degree angle generally gives the best distance on kicks, but in windy conditions, you may get more distance with a lower kick." Add to the fact that 50+ yard field goal attempts are usually kicked lower (to minimize wind resistance) and I can definitely see how the average figure of 38 could come to be.

I still say that height should be selectable in arcade mode, not unlike a certain game whose name we've agreed not to say. (That would also allow for onside kicks, pooch punts, etc.)

Ya, I think I remember reading that in the Football Pro manual aswell. It said that 45 degrees was the best angle to kick at (in gamepad mode not Coach mode, Fbpro allowed you too adjust the angle of the kick). If you were kicking into the wind or if it was a windy day, Fbpro indicated a lower Angle Kick would travel a little longer then the standard 45 degree. I think the game allowed the maximum of 65 degree angle Place Kicks, which i think were there if you wanted to minimize the chance of a Blocked Feildgoal Attempt and the Attempt was really close to the Goal posts (like a PAT for example). The trade off of course for doing this was that it greatly reduce the range of the kick.

Another thing I would like to point out is that the latest Patch I have been using (Beta 1.0106), I could be wrong but the it seems the height of FG Place Kicks got lowered back to their original height. David, did you lower the height down do the original angles?
