Yup I agree with string 3 US CV's plus POW for AA against 3 KB Carriers I would have went for it as well in 3 USN single CV TF's he may clobber 1 and so you get a shiny Essex) but 100+ SBD's against CAP from only 3 IJN CV's its worth the risk.
Especially if you can time it so some LBA fatigue his CAP a little.
Avoid KB only if united is a good rule as the CAP is invincible against 3 IJN CV's on their own you have a forces edge of 240 ish - 180 ish with better AA go for it !!!
I assume all cariers have 27 F4F-4'S ?

No way, IMO. This early in the game with the zero bonus your pilots would be toast. You might land 1-2 bombs the entire attack you would probably lose all 3 CV. Plus, you'll get other chances later. Why send your carriers on a suicide mission with nothing to gain. Lose them and you'll be watching him advance on PH or OZ saying to yourself "I really wish I had some defensive options right now."ORIGINAL: Andy Mac

YOu should not conduct any offensive missions at this point in the game. Risk only missions that directly support your defenses. Rabaul is his now, don't even toy with it. I did the same thing in one of my games with Kuching. I lost 2BBs and 2CAs for my trouble and never got near the base.
How goes the build up in the South Pacific? Have a division at Suva yet? How about Palmyra? Pago-pago? Noumea? The Solomons have no significance in comparisson to these bases.
Your pilots against the KB in Jan 42....

Harry Turtledove "Worldwar/Balance" series? First one was "Worldwar: In the Balance"... and i agree the rest did go downhill. The Aliens characters (mostly) behaved more like humans than the humans did...[8|]

Pick a nice quiet base in the Central Pacific and use your CV on that, two points; this may draw KB away for the SW Pacific and will increase your pilotes experence level. "Hit'em where they ain't" It's gonna be a long war.

You don't like the idea of Angelina Jolene in a tight uniform with an eye patch?

I recently saw it on HBO or one of the other pay channels, and can say it really stunk. I didn't even bother watching till the end. It appeared the movie was done 100% in computer graphics and the only real thing in the film were the actors.
Of course I'd love to have a couple of their sky carriers (CV's in the clouds) in WitP. But amphibious P-40's was just too much to take.

I'm a hopeless B movie fan as I can't stomach the formula style hollywood big budget pictures. I call them movies in a box...just add water and stir and whalla, you have tons of stylized action sequences and no plot. Anyway, I thought it was a decent Netflix rental.ORIGINAL: dtravel

Any P-40 that can fly from New York to Tibet with two people aboard without refueling most certainly is amphibious. It was a good old 50's style serial move ala "Terry and the Pirates"[8D]

Part of the hype was the claim that it was the first big-budget Hollywood movie to use nothing but virtual sets, IIRC.

turn is done, and it looks like i should've taken Sting's advice....
as stated i went with the majority and retreated, i decided not to go for the transports as it wasn't worth the risk of losing my CV's going for a few AK's.
as it turned out, the japanese CV group, didn't move from its posistion at Rabual during the turn. So had I sent a surface TF of 2 BB's, 7 CA's, 6 CL's, I would've been able to force a surface action. With 2 days turns, he wouldn't be able to move his CV's when he saw the approach coming after the 1st day. I probably would've kept my CV's 7 hexes away to avoid his CV's from reacting to mine.
of course that is all "monday quarterbacking", and i'm not mad with the decision to retreat (as i was leaning towards that anyways, and just wanted someone to talk me into attacking), but it would've been an interesting turn had i turned an blind eye to the risk of such a mission.
But that is what is great about this game.....if this wasn't a 3-4 year game, and instead a 1 year game, i would've said "the hell with it, i'm going for it", but since you have to put some much time and energy into a PBEM, consequences of game play have a major impact, than would any other game out there.
anyways, i'll be saving the turn, and i'll ask Tom to do a replay for me sometime down the line, to see what would've had it had i gone for the risky surface action
thanks for the advice everyone

I have just started my first two PBEM's and one is "one a day" vs "two a day." I feel with the amount of time spent that two days per turn are best plus, it adds more FOG of War to the game and gets away from micromanaging too much. I have played games aginst the AI with 2 day turns and found it best. No more one day turns after this game.

Just because the TF didn't move (that you know) doesn't mean you could have forced a surface action. Getting forces in the same hex guarentees nothing.
