Feature request: user adjusted salary max
right now we have the option of choosing different ranges -- Can it be changed to a user entered number for the ENTIRE LEAGUE (or will it just relatively scale the salaries --- I know you can manually enter all of these) --- Reason being the initial options provide too much room.... Thanks
RE: Feature request: user adjusted salary max
You've got a few options.
You can use the 'ranges'.
You can use the 'percent' scalar, which modifies both the salaries and the wage bill for each team.
You can edit manually the available wage bill for each team.
You can edit manually the current salary for each player.
...
If you provide more detail about what you're trying to do, and why the current options don't meet your needs, that would help. [;)]

Thanks. I know that -- looking for a way to implement more of a salary cap --- as you mentioned the "scalar" percent takes both cap and individual salaries down --- I really don't want to modify every team --- As the ranges are already there -- adding a customizable option would not be that hard from a programming standpoint (especially compared to implementing a cut-scene program)

RE: Feature request: user adjusted salary max
I'd like there to be a button that brings up all the teams in a 2x26 (or however many teams) spreadsheet, with their name on the left and an editable box for each team on the right that is for available cash. That way editing their available finances would take about 30 sec as opposed to 10 mins by having to go thru each teams' front office screen.
I'd also like to see a similar menu/spreadsheet thing for logos and stadiums. That way you don't have to go thru each team's front office screen. It would help condense the game a little.

RE: Feature request: user adjusted salary max
1st time poster and new to Pure Sim BB. Enjoying my purchase and the constant updates provided by Shaun and all he extras supplied by this community.
Along the line expressed above, I set up a fictional league (12 teams medium markets-starting in 1969). I then quick simmed 5 years and took over the worst team. I tried to make some trades with better teams looking to move some of my vets for younger players. Received some nice 1 for 1 offers but when I tried to make the trade, I found out all teams had loaded up their salaries to within 200k of the their max money. Thus no trades could be made unless they were equal in salary. If my memory is working today I think only 1 team had somewhere in the area of 700k to spend. Also the team I took has less than 250k left and I can't even resign a couple of players I would like to.
Maybe I missed something when I set up, but short of editing all team monies and salaries every year, is this normal for all teams in a league to max out their available money?
Thanks for any input

Wow, great thread! Hitting things one at a time..
If done nicely, you might have a bunch of things available from that page: inline editing of the finances, city name, and team name; a button for 'edit ballpark'; a button for 'change logo'. Possibly 'change minor league team names'. That would be sweet.
Can anybody think of other things which belong in that?
I've only just hit 'end of year 5' in my little simulated world, and I'm observing that most teams are running into a significant financial crunch: most of the best young players from the initial draft were signed to 5-year-deals, which means that there's a lot of cotnracts expiring at the end of year 5. Most teams in my world have between 10 to 20 players becoming free agents, and most can't afford to re-sign the best. I've been stuck in a similar boat, but I think I've managed to plan for it better, and will be escaping without much damage - this might mean I run away with the league next season, we'll see.
Thank you!BTW thanks Amaroq for your postings -- I always look forward to your posts...
That's a great idea! I think it sounds like it would hit jzicc's request, as well as make things a lot easier for all the custom-league modders.I'd like there to be a button that brings up all the teams in a 2x26 (or however many teams) spreadsheet, with their name on the left and an editable box for each team on the right that is for available cash. Yes and no. There seem to be some salary-balance issues at the moment. Its quite plausible to wind up with the opposite situation: all teams have more money than they spend. In that case, the human player spends more than his AI counterparts, and feels like he 'can buy anybody he wants'.Maybe I missed something when I set up, but short of editing all team monies and salaries every year, is this normal for all teams in a league to max out their available money?

RE: Feature request: user adjusted salary max
I think the imbalance is due to the high percentage of 5 year contracts that are signed and then expire (needs to be a coding change here for the CPU) at the same time --- all the studs want big raises; I ran into this myself as I was just fooling around and given everyone 5 year contracts --- I did not have any money for anyone -- of course this is after I created the 140 win team -- I'll post some stats when I have some time to show the upper limit of the stat engine....

RE: Feature request: user adjusted salary max
Thanks for the responses Amaroq & jzicc.
If what you say is true, then wouldn't this be a great time for an expansion-say from a 12 team 3 div setup, in my case, to a 16 team 2 division setup.
Reasoning: If a bunch of contracts are going to be running out, and for the sake of argument they all want raises- some very big raises, some FA may not get signed due to lack of money.
Are they then better being stars on an expansion team or rotting in the FA pool because no team can meet their salary demands. This would in theory also serve the purpose of thinning out the overall team payrolls, for the time being.
Again I am just throwing this out there, trying to get a better understanding of how to operate within the games financial system. If my reasoning is flawed or just wrong feel free to comment.
Also there seems to be an overabundance of 30+ yo minor leaguers. Many of these have high 6 and some low 7 figure salaries. This to me seems a little unrealistic in todays game, as far as them being kept on a minor league roster. (Just a newbie observation). I Can cut them but still have to pay them so no financial relief there.
I also noticed on each teams Front office page two areas of interest- Disposition and interest. I wish I had paid more attention to this at the beginning of my season. Right now all the teams are saying the same thing under disposition: not actively looking for any deals. This figures with the money situation the way it is. I remember a few teams had listed earlier looking for a few spare parts but don't recall any of the other comments. I just figured this was an area like in OOTP where a team could announce its intentions for the year ie. rebuilding, cutting salary, looking to get younger, win now etc. I also noticed for the team I am running there is a n/a after these comments. Is there someplace I can enter info in these lines and is the purpose of these comments as I inferred above rebuilding etc.?
Again thanks for any comments

You can do a percentage of today's total team money. I usually do 1% for my 1951 starting league.
However, in the XML file you can change it to:
1) Amount of contract years (now it is set at 5 -- you can easly change it to 6 or 7; or 3, 4 -- what ever your like!)
2) You can change the Franchise Start Multiplier
3) Salary by Position
4) Max Salary
5) Min Salary
It is hard to explain all the above stuff. You just need to load the XML in Wordpad and look around. You will not believe it! It is so powerful, yet very easy to use. Just be sure and don't edit the original -- save it to a new name and then edit and experiment to your hearts content.

I couldn't figure out where to change it. Help with changing the percentage of team's total money?

The place to do that is inside the program. When you go to pick the region a team is from and say it reads "Houston-Galveston $250,000,000" -- instead of accepting the default, make a new region called Houston (only) or maybe Houston-Woodlands and give them only $ 150,000,000. That way New York can have twice the money.
Or you could make a new NewYork region and give them $500,000,000
RE: Feature request: user adjusted salary max
bump. I wonder if Shaun's read this thread. Some good ideas here.
RE: Feature request: user adjusted salary max
Shaun -- just wondering if you could give an approximation in terms of your prioritization of this feature (short/medium/long/ never) like you did for some other threads
