warping engineers, again

Post by bstarr »

When playing the computer, I still have these engineer fragments appearing all over the board. These fragments not only appear without transportation (I previously thought the comp was shipping them, but it is not), but they continue to grow without reaching a maximum, which leads me to believe that they are not actually growing, but being combined with other fragments that are being teleported to the same hex turn after turn. These fragments only appear for the computer's side. In fact, I can play the first several turns HtH with no problem, but the instant I switch playing against the AI the problem rears it's head. This problem appears in both WITP and WPO. My version of WITP has all sorts of CHS additions, but WPO has not been altered in the least. In fact, it's even in a separate folder.

I don't want to sound like a whiner, but this is a game stopper for me. I'm flattered at having my own bug (to my knowledge, no one else has this problem) but I really would like to get back to playing the game.

I've seen it happen occasionally, as the AI wants to have a certain base force at all of its bases.  Its annoying, but I would (at least me, when I played WitP) hardly call it a game stopper. So far (at least in WPO), I have only seen 1 fragment at a base, and it has not grown. for W

I think it has something to do with the way Gary coded the AI for WitP, since it happens in that game aswell.

In either case, I think I might be able to force a scenario workaround, not sure though. Will investigate, as this may not even be the bug you are describing.  I'm holding up 1.202 to check on some AI things, this can just be one of them.

15 fragment engineer units and counting, and I've seen these things grow bigger than divisions. They eat a tremendous amount of supply, once they've grown for a few turns they're too big to transport (and would recreate themselves anyway, albeit slowly), and since they grow engineers devices but not support devices they blow the support ratio for the entinre hex right out of the water. Definitely a game stopper.

Thanks for your help, though. Like I said, I'm not trying to be a whiner, but you can imagine the frustration of discovering I have my own bug. I'm about as happy as Lou Gehrig when he discovered he had his own disease. [;)]

ps. I'm not very computer savy. I don't know how to do screen shots. I can send a save, though. I've got a pretty good one with around a dozen "38th Construction" fragments all around the board. However, I couldn't find a late save (must have saved over or accidentally deleted them), so I won't be a ble to show you the mega-monsters these babies can grow into.
