For me it happens when the game asks do you want ships to bombard, I click yes and just before the combat animation it crashes, this also happened in a phem game when as Japan I tried to attack a chinese territory.
I also did have one crash playing Germany and the comp was Japan, it was the winter 1944 turn and once I got done with Germany it went to the Japan AI's turn and it crashed.

It only happens during AI turn in my PC. Never on human turn - no matter if i use ship attack or not.

The game goes black when the game is switching from global map to the combat animation during AI turn. It never reaches the combat animation map but simply crashes. Once i got a messages about virtual memory from windows but only once.

But like i said. Never happens during human play. Played now two whole games turning the combat animation off before finishing round without problems.

The bug should obviously be fixed - but out of curiosity - why do you guys play with combat animations on? It slows down the game and does not provide any meaningful information. Personally, I think I watched it 2 or 3 times at the most before turning it off.

You may not like the combat animations but some people do, I'm only griping because you guys really made a great game but I personally can't deal with crashes, theres nothing worse than getting into a game for 3 hours forget to save and then you lose all your progress.  I do understand 2by3 is busy with the new civil war game based on the WA system which I will be buying but I just hope the problems with the patch will be fixed.

By the way a phem opponent I was playing against also had a crash  when the combat animation was supposed to come on.

It would really help to have a save or something to go by for us to figure this out.

By the way a phem opponent I was playing against also had a crash when the combat animation was supposed to come on.

Yesterday afternoon I answered my turn in a pbem game, and while doing the Japanese movement phase, three HB attacked 2 Chinese inf and 1 militia. Everytime I hit the bottom to conduct a general attack the game crashed just before the combat animation. This happened at least three times, quite anoying since I had to replay the germans three times in a row.[:@] So anyway got tired and went to take a nap [>:]. I retook the game in the evening and I solved the problem turning off ther combat animation.[:)]
We started the game using v1.200 and then we upgraded to v1.201
I guess I can send Jan and Joel a copy of the file.

Thanks to the save I got from Luftwaffe, Keith just identified the bug. I should have a fix for it today which I'll email to Luftwaffe to verify (it didn't actually crash for Keith and I, we just didn't have any animations, but that was enough to show Keith where the bug was). If you get the crash and want to help test out our patch file, email me at Jabgamer@2by3games.com and I'll send you the exe when I get it. When working on our new game, we found and fixed a bug with the VCR panel (where it would come up with just the background and no control buttons). That was a nasty bug that we had been trying to find for a year and finally think we got it. We think that bug could cause other nasty things as well (loss of the rollover text for one). The fix for that will also be in this exe.

Thanks to Luftwaffe for sending the save that seems to have done the trick.

That's really good news. I guess I should postpone my new 4-player game until this new patch is out. Any idea how long that will be?

On another note, I was thinking that it would be very helpfull to find bugs by using some kind of digital video recorder(DVR) program while playing the game. In this way exact mouse usage could be captured just before a crash. When a bug occurs a sample of this video and the game save could be sent in for review. Does anybody think this is a good idea? And does anyone know of a free program that does this?

Thanks for the fix, so far all seems fine.  I only played one turn in a phem  so I still need to start up a full game against the AI to be sure.

Thanks again Joel.

Excellent!

I just got the 1.201 patch yesterday and the game crashed today for the first time ever. (It was during the AI turn, and I had saved just before that; when I rebooted and reloaded from the save the crash didn't repeat.) Glad to know you've already figured out the fix. And finally gotten that VCR panel bug.

Much thanks for your continued work supporting this game.

I realize this might have been fixed by now, so this might be old data, but one instance that I've identified is that the game crashes (before the combat animation) when you have ships from _multiple_ areas bombard. When I bombard from one sea area, it works fine.

I guess I'll just turn off the combat animation and wait for the next patch. :-)

We have fixed this with 1.202. Matrix is tied up with the Origins convention this weekend, but the patch should be available by late next week. Until then, I suggest you play without the animations.

I just bought the game and it crashes left and right. It helped to turn off animation and the battles. But it still crashes. It's crashed while I was doing the research stuff clicking on buttons. Attached my dxdiag.
