A multiplayer game?

Post by hakan »

I'm an old WIR player since 1990, but I need some variety. And this game seems ok. Can you play this game against a human player via Internet in real-time?

Yes you can. There's also an "opponents wanted" section at the top of the COTA forum.

Yup, I got the game. And as all good games it starts rather slowly... But now I cannot stop!! First good game since Second Front and War in Russia!!

Shit - My wife is angry!! LOL!!! What should I do?? Continue playing, or make my wife happy?? ;-)

However ... how can you play multiplayer? Do you connect with All-Seeing Eye?

Buy you wife a copy and get on a LAN and play. (I think the last time I played something on a LAN with my wife was like 10 years ago ... CIVNET ... I rolled over her civ with waves of tanks. She was pissed, since she thought we were going to be allied to battle against evil computer civs. Oh, well ...)

MP just requires a host and knowing that PC's IP address. That's it.

I will show the game to some friends this weekend; I hope they will buy it so I may play LAN with them. In a way, the game kind of reminded me of Advanced Squad Leader, witch you, by the way, should try to make a LAN game of. After all, ASL is the most famous tactical WWII board game, and would probably sell just because of the name.

Anyway: Thanks for a good game. My wife is angry, but me so happy!!

My wife used to wup my ass with a rocketlauncher in (the old SF-FPS) Marathon Infinity but sofar I've never managed to interest her in some more serious kind of simulation. Maybe I should leave it at that for the sake of my self-esteem... [;)]

Greup,

Hey I remember those Rocket Launchers from Marathon, though we used to play with our own modded weapons and the RLs fired a three round salvo at a great rate of knots. There was also a giant mortar type weapon, we modded so that when it hit it sucked all the nearby oxygen, creating a vacuum and suffocating any one nearby. That brings back memories - a great game in its day. [:)]

Yes, you Aussie guys sure know how to make good games! I still remember that quacking sound those aliens made when they materialized behind your back. ...and those oxygen free levels were intense. Too bad Microsoft bought them before they were able to release Halo for real computers (or maybe that saved them - who knows).

BTW, it's your (or rather my weakness for COTA's) fault I only got 3 hours sleep last night. Great game! [:)]

After all, ASL is the most famous tactical WWII board game, and would probably sell just because of the name.

FYI: The SL/ASL name has been acquired by Paradox Games (of Europa Universalis+Hearts of Iron fame) so I guess that is not an option for Panther Games even if I'm sure they would make someting great of it.

As a side-note: I stopped playing the SL-series about the time ASL finally came along. Sl/COI/COD on the other hand I played to death and beyond. I loved those light green nuances from certain printing batches of the game maps and those wheat fields whether I was holding on to a hilltop with the Romanian 6+1 leader (*very* bad) or administering certain death by Oberst Greup 10-3 (*very* good) some LMGs and a couple of normal squads... -4 for moving in the open... -3 for Greup ah.. don't remeber all those DRMs anymore.... <sigh> once I knew the entire CRT and all modifiers... and had almost NO life at all. I created custom units for CIV, I wanted to create transport vehicles that could carry troops or tanks, pretty much like Galaxy/Hercules planes. After creating very neat graphics that looked like a perfect miniature of those planes, I ended up with them being unable to access the mainland, due to a shortcoming in the scripting engine.
So they were seen/used as ships by the engine! hehehe

Neat game tho.

Ok, the evil swedes got the hand of ASL ... But then again, I noticed the best board game ever(?) "World in Flames" are a Matrix game, coming this winter. And that gives me comfort, since Harts of Iron was megacrap... I don't think that ADG and Matrix will mess up WiF...

Panther Games, me so happy!!! COTA online is just amazing!! Thanx thanx thanx!! [&o]
