MAximum resolution

Post by Jepep Hepep »

This question is so obvious that I probably screwed up the search since I couldn't find the answer. Anyway, why is the maximum resolution so low? The game runs so smoothly I'd REALLY like to up the resolution a lot to make it look so much better. Are there any suitable mods around or perhaps a patch in the future?

1280x1024 to support those queer 17 inch LCDs. I'd be shocked if Gathering Storm didn't up it to at least 1600x1200 or eliminate the cap altogether.

Not to mention that anyone with a 20" tft or larger is cursed with these low resolutions... I have just downloaded the demo version of starshatter, but i will not buy it until it supports 1920x1200, perhaps larger (the native resolution of my Dell 2405). And even then, those with a 30" TFT need even more :(

Holy cats! Thirty inches? My TV isn't that big.

Anyway, yes, I am adding 1600 x 900 and 1600 x 1200 to the mode list in The Gathering Storm. For anything larger than that, you will have to edit the video.cfg file by hand (I'm taking out the helpful algorithm that tries to keep you from picking an unsupported screen resolution). The only problem is that the fonts won't get bigger with the larger screen resolutions, so the GUI screens will be almost unreadable unless you have a monster sized display.

ETA for that ?
Dont worry about that, 1920x1200 is typical for 24" TFT's and 2560x1600 for the 30" (Like the Dell 3007). It would be nice to have a wider field of view as well, as widescreen displays have a larger FOV :) [around 120 degrees]

As a long-time simmer and fan of Starshatter myself I have to agree - 1920x1200 for us widescreen junkies would be most appreciated. =)

I don't understand why the screen mode dropdown box doesn't offer all the enumerated resolutions to begin with. I too suffer from 1680x1050itis and I get the eyebrow cramps when these black bars appear on the sides of my screen.

I edited the video.cfg and I've got SSTGS running beautifully at my laptop's native res (1680x1050, widescreen).

BTW, The Gathering Storm is almost a new game! The cutscenes and radio chatter are great and the new graphics are awesome!

For some of us almost isn't good enough. From person who has bought two expansions for Total Annihilation [:'(]

Oh, well I'd prefer TGS having been free, but I don't mind paying to support indie game devs (especially ones as cool as milo!). If he didn't get paid, we wouldn't get any more SS, and that would make us all sad.

PS I bought both TA expansions too, and kept playing the game until recently when my stupid brothers misplaced the discs >_<

PPS Milo, couldn't you have waited until like, after finals to release the game? It's starting to seriously impinge on my homework, study and sleep time.

Phoenix, this might be OT, but since you misplaced your TA discs.... http://taspring.clan-sy.com/ (And no you don't really need to have the TA CDs for that one to work ;) )
