Error in FitE scenario?

Post by glvaca »

I got this message in a txt file in where I save my FitE pbem scenario's:

--There may be corrupted events in this scenario : Fire in the East 1941-1945
Elmer tried to fix them up
WITHDRAW_UNIT_EFFECT
Please open this scenario in the editor and check them.
**Problem with unit in event(227)
**Full Unit Name was : Soviet 7th Army, 114th RD

Do I need to do anything? If so, what?

Thanks.

Definetly an error in the convertion from CoW. Instead of "114th Rifle Div" it should be "90th Aufklar" of 10th Panzer Div.
Still haven't got TOAWIII myself, so I can't say how widespread the problem is.

Euh, ok. Do I need to do something? Will this break the game?
Thanks.

Since you already have started the game you can't edit the events, but that one error won't be a show-stopper. It's just a matter of a single russian rifle division that gets withdrawn instead of a german recon unit.

However, if one event is corrupted, I can't be sure others haven't been as well, some of which might have far worse consequenses.

Question: There is a technique some designers have employed in scenarios with full event lists - running the first turn, then changing the .SAL to .SCE and thereby gaining a few events that had been used before to set some initial values. Did you employ this technique in FitE?

I ask because I'm concerned about how scenarios designed with that technique will convert.

No, all initial values are set with events.

I had a far more serious apparant error crop up in a game (PBEM). At the star of German turn two, a LOT of my air units were firing as targets I never assigned. (E.G. A fighter set on Air superiority [Limit Losses] on turn 1 had changed to Combat Operations, Ignore Losses). I took the trouble to check, since I had written the Turn 1 orders down. All the targets were legetimate (no empty hexes), but almost all of the attacks were unassigned. What goes? (P.S. I have TAOW3).

It sounds like you, or your opponent, set the Air Staff Assistant to On, instead of Off. It is alternately considered bad form, cheating, or extreme newbishness, to use the ASA in PBEM games, for this very reason...[:D]

And now I've had a FAR more serious error crop up in FitE.  Against the PO, set at an easy level, playing as the Russians, I took Bucharest on turn 163 (hey, I said it was at an easy level).  The event withdrew the Russian Army instead of the Rumanians.  I've still got Shock Armies, Guards Armies, Tank/Mech corps, and NKVD units...but the regular army's completely gone.

I'm pretty sure this DOES qualify as a show stopper...may as well just say that the Germans win if the Russians beat the Rumanians...  [:D]

Hmmm now that is a troubling report. I think that's the furthest anyone has declared to have gotten in this scen in TOAW 3. I'd hate to think that all the time Larry and I spent on turns and the AAR will come to naught should we get that far and experience the same effect.

Regarding the "corrupted events" error message, I've been finding it in a number of scenarios - off the top of my head - "Soviet Union 1941" and the "14 days at Normandy" one.

I think that the corrupted events message has appeared in most of my games but the times I did bother to open the scenario in both the TOAW 3 and ACOW editor it turned out to be a false positive. However, it now appears that not evry error message is a false positive and that some of them may be very serious. I'm hoping that the German Army doesn't disappear on turn 27 this time around in my GiO game. apparently last time it was due to mid game conversion from ACOW to TOAW 3. Needless to say that if both of my FitE and the GiO games go go south I'll be very pissed and have a right to be feeling that way.

On a number of occasions, the program has reported an error in an event and quoted the target unit, which was apparently incorrect. Upon inspection of the event editor, the target unit has been the same as in the COW version. This is what is being discussed.

I'm playing it myself, hot-seat, right now to see if I can duplicate it even earlier (i.e. the Axis armies get out of the way, and I walk a Russian unit into Bucharest). I'll let you know...

I did exactly that ( moved the Axis units outta the way and marched a Russian unit into Bucharest and the only thing that happened is that the Romanians dissappeared. All the soviet stuff was just like it was before. Nothing wrong happened. So maybe it has something to do with the a Romanian unit or units that causes the glich to happen where the Russians dissappear instead? Or maybe it has something to do with one or more Theater options, since I didn't take any TOs during my test. ???

Did that, too...same result as you. So I started doing that with my save games, going back from my most recent. The most recent but one (about three turns before I take Bucharest), I moved all the Axis armies out of the way, walked in to the city...and the Rumanians were removed.

So it looks like a saved game corruption of some kind. Sorry about the false alarm.
