Tutorial #4

Post by Shannon V. OKeets »

I only have the graphics for the first 3 pages done so far. But I thought I would give you a peek.

This page will talk about how each unit can be examined in detail using the Unit Review Form <Ctrl U>.

Pages 3 through 6 will display all the different land unit types and discuss their differences.

I am trying to show elite versus regular, corps / army versus division, and on this page, Nationalist versus Communist China.

I'm sure you already know but the unit rows 2 and 3 are slightly skewed (don't line up perfectly in the vertical) which causes an obsessive dork like me to.. well... obsess on it.

Just one question. Could be me not being up to date. But why is Wavels listed defence strength 10 and all other HQs has their value as printed on the counter? My uninformed guess is that it is placed on map somewhere that gives it a x2 on defensive. If it is so perhaps it should be avoided in a basic tutorial unless it is there to make that point?

Thanks. You are right about the cause. I'll use it as part of the write up.

There are other places where the numbers in the unit data panel are different than what you see onthe counter. I want to review them all and decide on which to retain. For example, disorganized naval units are shown with a range of 0 (2). Which I do not like - mainly because it takes up so much room in a panel that is tight on space.

The HQ units have the name of the General underneath their stats.
Would it look better if the name was on top and the stats below?

Yes. I'll change it in the Units Review Form.

Divisional units plus winterized units.

I'll correct the problem with the pink circles. I usually use that color for transparency. Clearly (pun intended) I need to choose another color for that purpose here.

Last in the series.

Here I want to compare the pluses and minuses of building different infantry types. I'll also cover reserve units.

There will be 2 more pages to this tutorial:

8 - will show land units placed at the start of Barbarossa (high resolution so fairly high zoom)

9 - similar to 8 but with medium resolution and lower zoom level.

hi, im a long time lurker on this forum, anxiously awaiting mwif.

i can see things are shaping up really well, but i found a small mistake in the
von Leeb descripion. his 1937 publication should be called "die Abwehr" (meaning "defense"),
instead of "die Abweht"; "Abweht" not actually being a german word.

it´s only a rather unimportant typo of course, but it shouldn´t be hard to fix.
keep up the good work,

michael

hi folks, I haven't posted much lately cuz everything has been looking real good. I like those rounded corners! (Yes, I have clipped the corners of several thousand WiF cardboard counters, so nice).

just wondering who the sample GARRison units up there belong too,
(the ones next to the Japanese MARines) in particular the one with the green center to the unit type box...I'm guessing Italy?

the TERRitorial write-up will be a bit of a pickle...rules for TERRitorial units are played a certain way that isn't exactly based on rock-solid rules interpretation. I think this may have been covered somewhere else here, perhaps in the Optional rules thread?

We are going to submit a rules clarification list to ADG for ruling. If we can reduce any territorial issues to a few yes/no questions, I will include them on the list.
