a few questions re: cockpit

Post by peppergomez »

hey all,

just registered here. had my eye on this one since i heard about it. as a flight simmer, this one is appealing, kinda looks like falcon4 in space.

anyhow, in watching the latest trailer for it, i have a q re: the cockpits.
1st, though i'm glad they are included, they look a little um, well, ugly for lack of a better word.
my main concern is how much of the screen they obscure, and my q is is ss2 will allow zooming in and out of the cockpit, much like sims like lomac, il2, and falcon4 allow diff't viewpoints- either a close, upfront view or a somewhat zoomed out one, allowing for more peripheral vision. zooming out a bit from the cockpit view presented in the ss2 trailer would be really nice. i'm sure there's going to be the ability to toggle the cockpit on/off, but i like to keep it on for the sake of immersion, i just don't want it quite so "in my face".

other than that, great job from the looks of it.

one final q-- will it be possible to play through the campaigns with another person online? be cool to have a human wingman for the missions!

thanks.

You can switch cockpit on and off. I don't think that zooming inside cockpit is possible. That works in external view modes though. And if cockpit instruments are on the way, just tilt head up a bit.
You know what they say, don't you? About how us MechWarriors are the modern knights, how warfare has become civilized now that we have to abide by conventions and rules of war. Don't believe it.

bummer, cuz they are pretty clunky looking as is in the video, with 0 peripheral view and about 60% of the screen obscured. take a look at any us jet after the f16 and you will see that the cockpit allows a lot more visibility for the pilot. oh well, still likely to buy this one!

I understand your concern about the cockpit, but I myself tend to fly with cockpit enabled all the time. Why? Well it does look cool, and the visual canopy reflection cue is well-done.

Actually, when in cockpit view, just hit the 'k' key and that'll move your face away from the canopy and you'll see a lot more.  I just like to be able to look in different directions instead of just straight ahead.

Yes, but that way you will end up squinting at the targets ;)

What I'm missing in this game is a flexible zoom feature. Add another key besides the "k" and have them increase and decrease the zoom factor. -4x to +8x would be more than enough.
