Very true; I am afraid that I might have a sudden stroke if I check the forums one day and see a GOLD announcement.[X(]

I'll admit,

It's a bit fustrating, there are a ton of WWII games out there but this is the only (well,d\should be), good WWI game about to come out. Hopefully, it will be released in the next few months. ;)

Guns of August was my first....make that second great boardgame. How can you top Starship Troopers? [;)]

I have had my eye on this forum for a while, and am waiting anxiously.

I want to be the first:

PBEM Allied opponent wanted.
Full war scenario.

Hmmm.. I just thought of something. In War In The Pacific, 9 of us are about to start a PBEM game, two as Japanese, and 7 splitting Allied commands, and it is proving awkward so far. GOA would probably lend itself MUCH better to this concept. If any are interested after release, let me know, I want to get in on it!

It would be great if someone played France, England, Belgium,Italy, and America and another took Russia, Serbia, and Rumania for the Entente; while someone could take Germany and another Austro-Hungary, Turkey, and Bulgaria for the Central Powers. Not sure how it could be done though.

No way of telling yet. But it is something to keep in mind. The bartering/begging/pleading that could go on gives one pause, doesn't it?

I can easily imagine the German player tearing his hair out and screaming at the Austrian player,"Finish off Serbia already, I need support on the Polish sector"![:@]

Or a replay of Pershing refusing to allow the French to use his forces piecemeal, and insisting on a unified command.

Count me in if this is indeed possible.

Of course, the more you cut it up the more interesting it might be.

It would be possible with hte current version I think, but slow.  Each person would have to get hte PBEM file, do their part of the turn, then save it and send it on to hte next person.  The final person in the chain would end the turn rather than saving it, and send it off to the other side.

Well that sounds promising. If a good and reliable four person group could form, I imagine it would be a thrilling experience. I am very interested in getting in on some two on two fighting. I can fire off several turns per day.

This should be very close to GOLD me thinks.

Four would be good, but I think we would need five.
1) Britain
2) France
3) Germany
4) Austria-Hungary
5) Russia

Any minor powers entering the war would be controlled by an existing member of that alliance. I think it should be agreed in advance though that the Russian player control the US forces since he is on a different front from England and France, or a sixth player could be brought in at that point.

Game play: it would speed things up if the final player on side A, when finished with the turn, sent the file to all players on the opposing team, so the following players in turn will already know what moves they want to make when they get the "master" file. Also, if player C on a team only needs to move a couple of units, he can e-mail someone 'upstream' asking them to move Unit X and Y to Hex ABC for them.

What do ya'll think?

Turns would be slow initially I think, but would speed up as the process became more streamlined, but the game would go slower that simply a two player PBEM of course.

I would recommend having also two AAR threads where tactics and strategy are discussed amongst the players, with the opposing team not reading the other AAR for the duration of the game. I think it would also be wise to have a couple "alternates" lined up in advance to fill in if players drop out for whatever reason. By having alternates planned ahead of time, we could make sure to have an uncontaminated replacement (i.e. not having read the opposing AAR) pool.

I guess we will just have to wait until the game is released before we really know how it can all work. My only concern is that the more players that are involved, the slower the game would be played. Wouldn't want three gung-ho, turn a day players being held up by a weekend only guy.

It would probably be better if the "western powers" were controlled by the same person. Even though there was friction, America did try to cooperate with France and England and heavily relied on them for training and equipment.
