WA Transports inside frozen border?

Gary Grigsby’s World at War is back with a whole new set of features. World at War: A World Divided still gives complete control over the production, research and military strategy for your side, but in this new updated version you’ll also be able to bring spies into the mix as well as neutral country diplomacy, variable political events and much more. Perhaps the largest item is the ability to play a special Soviet vs. Allies scenario that occurs after the end of World War II.

WA Transports inside frozen border?

Post by Protagonist »

When playing the AI as Japan, the AI will bring WA transports within the Pacific Frozen border. Specifically, the AI will bring transports and supply to the Gilbert Islands zone and move a transport up to the Marshall Islands sea zone (for scouting I assume).

Is intended usage in allowing you to move transports through frozen zones as long as you don't click on it, much like you can move past impassible zones but not click on them? The key here is that you can use transports defensively and prevent Japan from setting up in any zone you want since you are essentially turning the sea zone frozen to most naval units.

You can prevent Pearl Harbor with enough transports by forcing too much combat along the way. Trading transports for potentially losing Heavy Fleets seems like a good trade to me. Not to mention the scouting benefits as well as pinning Japan in and keeping them within a certain range for a counterattack.

Very much a bug, thank you for pointing this out.

I just tried to do this with the WA but I am unable to. Could you please clarify if you are able to do this when controlling the WA - and if so exactly how you do this.

If its only the AI thats doing this then please provide a save just before and just after the WA AI has done so if thats possible for you. That would be most helpful for tracking down exactly whats bugged.

I have the saves since it happens the very first turn. Where would you like me to send them?

For me it happened letting the AI run normally for WA Su' 1939 so 00 01 5 We Su 1939 and 00 02 1 Ge Fa 1939 cover it.

Please mail them to janbs@stofanet.dk

Just to be clear. Only the AI is able to do this, right?

Yes, only the AI seems able to do it. I have seen up to 4 transports in the Gilbert Islands sea zone with one moving back and forth into the Marshal Islands sea zone during the WA turn. Also, supplies have been brought and placed in the Gilbert Islands so that the transports can move (all by the AI).

I have sent the two saves to you.
