Its got problems...

Well...Gathering Storm has obvious potential, but its in pretty serious need of patch...

First, I can't run it properly in 1280 x 1024 res...my objects and spacecraft have those graphical lines extending into space...then, in the first training mission, after the carrier jumps into warp space, I get a lock-up and CTD...

Lowering resolution to 1024 x 768 seemed to solve the above problems, but created an annoying studder in frame rate...this was bearable, but I got a little annoyed when two separate voice overs started playing at the same time...its hard to follow along in the training tutorial when your instructor has two voices saying different things in your ear at the same time!

Is anybody else having any of these issues?

The traditional Audio is weird fix is dropping the hardware acceleration level in the Windows control panel. You might also want to check for updated drivers. If its a built in solution your motherboard manufacturer will have them on their support page.

The traditional Audio is weird fix is dropping the hardware acceleration level in the Windows control panel. You might also want to check for updated drivers. If its a built in solution your motherboard manufacturer will have them on their support page.

Sounds like a pain in my a$$...I'm just a regular joe trying to play a video game...I'm no about to start messing with "motherboard" drivers...I've NEVER had to do that for any game...not really sure why I would have to do that for this one...

Unfortunately thats Windows for you. Keeping drivers up to date becomes the end users business. Course this could be something else entirely but driver updates are usually a good idea.

 Heres how to post your DxDiag info. DirectX inquires about the details of your computer, helps with troubleshooting.

First click the Start button and then select Run from the menu

In the Run box type DXDIAG and hit okay.

The above program will open, it may take a moment as it checks what components are installed in your computer. Once it has finished click Save All Information. You can then open the file and copy the contents into your topic.

First, I can't run it properly in 1280 x 1024 res...my objects and spacecraft have those graphical lines extending into space...

Could you post a screenshot of that? I'm not sure what kind of graphical glitch you are describing.
then, in the first training mission, after the carrier jumps into warp space, I get a lock-up and CTD...

The first training mission isn't supposed to have any quantum jumps in it. Are you talking about the cutscene that precedes the first mission? Just so we're on the same page, the first training mission involves you flying a Falcon fighter on your instructor's wing. You fly around the carrier for a bit and then dock.
Lowering resolution to 1024 x 768 seemed to solve the above problems, but created an annoying studder in frame rate...this was bearable, but I got a little annoyed when two separate voice overs started playing at the same time...its hard to follow along in the training tutorial when your instructor has two voices saying different things in your ear at the same time!

Weird. I've never experienced that problem. The only thing that comes to mind at the moment is some kind of system clock issue. The training voice overs are generally tied to time events in the mission. He says "Welcome" at mission clock 00:02, and "Raise your landing gear" at 00:35. If you have time compression enabled, that could cause some of those voice overs to overlap, because the game will play faster, but he will still talk at the same speed.

OK, so this part concerns me just a bit. According to this dump, you played the game for 14,229 secconds - that's almost four hours of wall clock time. Were you really running the game for that long? Did you leave it on a menu screen and go have dinner or something?

I do not know why the clock says that...I definitely was NOT playing for that long...When I had the intitial freeze and CTD, I was playing for maybe 10 minutes...tops...very strange...

As far as when I had the first freeze and CTD at the quantum jump, yes, it was at the end of the intro video...I thought that was part of the first mission...

I have not been able to reproduce the sound problem I was having, but I did have one more freeze after about an hour of play...I'll try to reproduce the graphics problem I was having in 1280x1024 and post a screen...

First, let me say that I am very excited about this. I have really enjoyed what I have seen so far. May I add a list of a few bugs?

1.) I am also having some stuttering issues in the cutscenes, with audio hangups accompanied by visual pauses. These hang for a few minutes, and then resolve themselves.

2.) In training missions, every now and then things pause for a few moments. It seems to be just before a new training explanation is about to be said.

My system is Windows XP, a Pentium D processor (2.5 I think), GeForce 7200 video card, 2 Gigs of RAM. I am not currently at home, and may not be able to post my DxDiag info until tomorrow.

My drivers are fairly up to date, but if you think updating drivers may be a part of the fix, could you recommend which ones I should update (audio, video card, others?)

Once again, I don't want to sound frustrated. So far, I am thrilled with what I have seen (my wife got it for me as a birthday present). I am very confident that you will be able to help me resolve the problems. Thanks in advance for your help. You have done with Starshatter what I had always daydreamed could possibly done with it. Thanks for your efforts!

Updated my video drivers, and that seems to have helped. I haven't had time to play, but I'll let you know if all issues are resolved.

OKay, just noticed one tiny problem. Sometimes, one audio file will play on top of another. For instance, in the "It's all about execution" mission, often times the message by the Hegemony warships overlaps with other radio transmissions from command, not just from wingmen. Sometimes two sequential training audio files will partially play over each other, with the second one beginning before the first ends.
 
Let me say, though, this is a very fun, very good game. It truly fills an important gap!

Thanks for the suggestion. I have actually already been running it with shadows off (because I like silky smoothe framerates at all times). But, I still have the voices running over each other. I don't hear any popping, just voice lines starting too soon.
